Trevor Croft
Whilst fitting a set of sequential change-up lights earlier today I managed to earth the coil via the tacho connection thanks to my clumsy crimping of the screened input lead. I didn't realise until I smelt the coil insulation overheating about five minutes after turning the ignition on. The coil was too hot to touch and some insulation has run out. The car still runs but I am concerned about damage to the coil due to the 100 percent duty cycle imposed. Also, could the windings have shorted, potentially overloading the ECU output stage? Any thoughts? Trevor Croft Yellow 1.6K SS
neilsjuke
if the insulation has melted i would change it as the poss/change value of the windings could give the Ecu a bad time
Joe 90
If the car still runs, the ECU should be fine. You should replace the coil though. 100,016 *biggrin*miles so far
