StevehS3
Since replacing my front pads I now have a squeal when coming to a complete stand still. The calipers are the later type and standard. Also, if I jab the brakes at about 10 mph I can hear and feel a knock through the steering. I have inspected and found the front pads to be a slightly loose fitting in the caliper. With the front jacked up if I rotate the wheel back and forth I can hear the squeal and knock as the pads move up and down very slightly (it isn't much). If I press the securing pins to hold the pad tight the squeal and knock goes away. Has anyone got any thoughts on this please.
Andy135
Lotus Elises had the same knocking issue. There's a good description of the cause and cure here.https://www.eliseparts.com/shop/braking/brake-accessories/4-x-anti-rattle-brake-pad-buffers/For brake squeal, the usual cure is a light smear of copperslip on the back of the pads. Brian27
Hi Steve. I had a similar problem, but my car has the older Triumph brakes. I ordered and fitted pad anti rattle springs which I obtained from Rimmer Bros. Cured the problem.Brian
StevehS3
Hi Brian,I am not sure they are available for these as they are Caterham specific calipers. I have ordered the buffers which I am sure will work.Cheers, Steve
StevehS3
I am pleased to report the anti-rattle buffer pads have completely solved the problem. They aren't very thick but have worked.
