Odometer readings when checking MOTs

Hi everyone, 

I am looking for a 7 SV just for fun, no track days and have seen a few for sale. My concern is that when checking their MOT history the recorded mileage often goes backward. I'm assuming this means a replacement odometer/ speedo has been fitted. Is it not possible to match the mileage when fitting a replacement or is that a silly question? I am wanting to buy but what do you think? I am a bit anoracky regarding provenance - am I over cautious?

Mileage variation wouldn't bother me provided there was adequate documentation on file to explain why. For example I'd expect to see invoices for parts/labour, showing mileage.  Speedo replacements on 7s are fairly common (I'm on my third in 15 years and 53K miles).

Re matching (that is, carrying forward) the current mileage, I don't know whether that's possible.  I guess it depends on the type of speedo.  I'm sure Caerbont could advise.

Yeah, thanks John. This is pretty much how I am beginning to think. Condition plus adequate documentation.
