M5 x20mm Small Cap Head Screws

Hi, I'm new here so apologies if I'm posting this in the wrong part of the forum but.......

Does anybody know where I can obtain two M5 x20mm small cap head bolts with either Torx or Hex head. Head diameter required is 7mm and head height of 5mm. Need these to fit Race Tec wing mirrors.

Most places only supply 8.5mm head diameter.

Are you sure they are cap head and not button head?

Hmm - just found some M5 BZP (zinc coated)cap heads in my bolt bin and they are indeed 8.5mm dia heads. They use a 4mm allen key.

Do you know anyone with a lathe?

Where abouts do they fit on the mirrors? If it is through the top of the mirror body into the stem I think flange head bolts would be good. If through the fixing bracket into the mounting surface, I think these are countersunk.

Hi, All the Websites I've looked at call them either Cap Head or Socket Head.

I found a company in Germany, but including freight it's £18+ for two tiny bolts!

The Bolts go through the centre of the mounts which secure to the windscreen. They are recessed into the mounts and the ball joints on the end of the mirror arms sit on top of where the bolts recess and are secured by tightening down a conical nut arrangement.

Any good? They're stainless, not sure what grade you were looking for but should be OK?

Sounds like you've found what you are looking for. A web-site I've used before is Accu  - not always the cheapest but if you're after marine grade / stainless steel they do a fairly good range.

SBB5-20 seems to be the spec code. I can seek advice on Monday from our technical experts.

I do think the easiest option is to seek someone with a lathe who likes beer - turning 0.75mm off a couple of bolt heads should be an easy task for them assuming they're not Ti!
 

I'd have a go sticking the bolt in the cordless drill at full speed and attacking with a file.
