aerobod - near CYYC
Although we have 4 tracks between Calgary and Edmonton now, the two I attend the most are Rocky Mountain Motorsport and Rad Torque Raceway. The new Rocky Mountain Motorsport Tilke designed Phase 1 track is 3.5km in length (phase 2 will add 1.5km) and has only just received it's electronic flagging system (we have to use in-car GPS transceivers) and kerb paint in the last month https://rockymotorsports.com/the-circuit/. Here are a few laps from last week: The Rad Torque Raceway is a somewhat older 2.7km long track, but has decent tarmac overall, it is a good track to practice setting a consistent pace, if not a bit featureless otherwise: https://www.radraceway.com/road-course-track/. Here are a few laps from earlier this month:
Tony Whitley
T shirt and shorts? But then there don't seem to be any marshals at Rocky Mountain Motorsport (is that a feature of the electronic flagging system?) so no-one to grab your sleeve and pull you out of a wreck. aerobod - near CYYC
The principle here on track days is no fire proof clothing required, Tony. Once clothes burn, it doesn't really make a difference whether skin is bare or not. If you notice on the right side on a central spot there is an ambulance in the middle of the shot, together with a couple of pickup trucks with fire extinguishing equipment. With "race control" detecting any car not moving as expected and through the cameras observing the track, the electronic flags go red or yellow and recovery is dispatched as required. I'm not sure if a track side marshal could get to a typical location on the track running, any faster than the recovery vehicles at 100km/h.My experience with the system so far is that they detect incidents and change the flags less than 5 seconds after occurrence. All cars have to have the MyLaps GPS transmitter mounted, on the Caterham I have to tie-wrap it to the roll bar pointing upwards, most cars suction-cup it to the windscreen: https://www.mylaps.com/mylaps-adac-rotax-max-challenge-improve-safety-gps-tracking/There are also gravel traps at all high-speed offs, so low risk of a crash incapacitating a driver. ptr_drvr
Both look like decent circuits, particularly the new RMM with the elevation changes!
