Cat2017
Afternoon allI'm looking to change the coolant thermostat on a 1700 xflow but not sure what temperature one is required. Burton Power have 3 listed for the xflow; 82, 88 & 91 °c. Which one should I use? Thanks
orangepeel61
Not sure what the official answer is but for what it's worth I have an 82°C stat and the car runs at around 88-90°C on the gauge which seems about right to me.Neil.
rkeywood
Burton list 88 deg as recommended (in bold) on the catalogue page. I'd probably check the current one (stamped on it) and go with that if it's running happily. Just to throw another alternative in, I run a restrictor rather than a stat. eric
The right one for a Caterham is 73°

Nigel Riches
Before I evicted the old X flow donkey it always had an 82c stat, and the temp. ind. always sat at around 90 on the dial. The temp. stamped into the thermostat is the point at which it starts to open, the actual coolant temp. on a fully warmed engine will be 10 - 14 degrees higher. If this is of any interest.
