29south
I know this has been discussed before but my search is not giving any results. Any help to the link appreciated or tips or how to do this. I seem to recall an issue about the nuts above the shock absorbers and special socket. Thanks
Wrightpayne
Its not a special socket, more a modified one. On certain age vehicles the FIA bar and Cage use thin headed bolts that sit above the rear upper shock fixing.Grinding the face off a socket gives a much better engagement on the thin bolt head as the leading edge of the socket usually has a chamfer. I've had several types of cage (non SLR type) on and off my car and found the easiest way to fit them is forward legs onto to door sills then pivot down to engage the hoop lugs (over the shocks) and finally position the rear legs. Removal is reverse. This was for Safety Devices cage, tall SD cage, extra tall double D cage then back to a SD tall cage all on an imperial chassis. Not marked the paint once (that you can see :-) )
