CtrMint Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Afternoon,Just got back from another couple of hours blatting around, looked at the back of the car and had one of those moments where something isn't right. Turns out the reflector in the middle of the rear near side light is missing. I do have some spare lens, but they are coloured where as the one which is missing is from my clear/white lens.Just wondering if anyone has successfully transplanted a reflector? Any tips. Heat isn't softening the adhesive. Thanks
7 wonders of the world Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 rear reflecters should be red not clear Mark, irrespective of the lens colour
Bricol Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Don't think he means the reflector is red - just he has some spare red lenses with reflectors he wants to use as a donor for the reflector.I would think they are plastic welded on rather than glued - so removal might mean destroying the lens behind it.
CtrMint Posted September 27, 2020 Author Posted September 27, 2020 Sorry, my explanation was a bit pants, Yeah my reflector is red on a clear lens pack etc. Looks like you are right, I can't get the reflector off without it starting to crack. Begs the question why the unit failed. Looks like I'll need to order a new lens.
7 wonders of the world Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 Good excuse to do a few more laps of the TT to see if you can't find the old one.....
CtrMint Posted September 27, 2020 Author Posted September 27, 2020 Lol, been out Saturday and Sunday, using the course and the Sloc, the Sloc is amazing since it's been resurfaced.
CtrMint Posted September 27, 2020 Author Posted September 27, 2020 Can't believe how expensive a replacement is.
malcolml Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 We had a bulk buy a few years back of the rear lens with clear indicator lens and red lens and a reflector think this was made by BRITEX it came in three parts that you had to glue together. They may be able to supply just a red reflector to replace your missing one.
ChrisC Posted September 27, 2020 Posted September 27, 2020 I remember building the bulk buy lenses, you had to stick them together with clear epoxy, so I imagine trying to transplant the reflector might result in a broken lens. https://www.bowerspartsonline.co.uk/lighting/rear-lighting/replacement-light-lenses/caterham-westfield-kit-car-clear-rear-combination-tail-light-lens£9, not bad to be honest
