Brightonuk
I purchased on of the Ali gear knobs unfortunately my T9 lever is 1/2" and the thread on the knob is ?? much smaller.I tapped the knob out to 1/2" and about 3/4" deep but it still sits too high on the lever and the tap will not go further I do not want to force it and snap the tap, my only option is to shorten the gear lever and re thread it.But I am not sure how far to cut the lever down, do I go really short (hopefully improving shift speed) or just enough so my knuckles don't hit the dash. DJ.
If the gear lever gets too short, the knob can sit too close to the tunnel top and be more awkward to grab. I suggest taking it down 1/2" at a time to be sure
John Vine
Was the ali knob one of Caterham's (like this)? What gearlever do you have -- Sierra or CC-specific?I've just taken some measurements of my gearlever...I have the CC 6-sp ali knob on my CC 6-speed box, plus the Quickshift lever. The knob is about 3" long (and looks identical in size to the CC 5-sp one above), and the base sits about level with the tunnel cover. The internal part-threaded hole is 2" deep. The start of the internal thread (3/8" UNC) is recessed about 3/4", and the thread itself is about 7/8" long.Hope that helps.JV
