Do springs grow old? Ans: kinda probably, cheap to renew anyway.

Anthony you are going to struggle to get the car softer for the road.

That damper actually runs softer than the Bilstein Caterham in Low Speed  (Low speed is up to a Max 4"/sec damper velocity.  Most consider low speed to be sub 2"/sec

In terms of driver feel it is this low speed damping that you can detect.  This is what you feel via your finger tips and backside.  This is the valving of the damper that will influence understeer and oversteer.

Above the 4"/sec depending on damper setting on the NTR it could be running harder than the Bilstein.  But you only feel this after the event - you can not detect it before it happens.

This would be the gain in having a 3 way damper - particularly a digressive piston type where you can change the shape of the curves.  Here we can have more or less of the low speed or high speed as we demand to personal taste.

The once change we can offer would be a progressive twin spring setup for the rear which would make the rear more plush.

Anthony then you most certainly do not need softer springs. If you have not been adjusting the dampers to find the best settings for you I suspect you are running the car too hard.  Thats why they are adjustable.

So take a look at the handbook to see how they adjust.  But in short you need to turn all the adjuster knobs to full hard. Or + until they stop. Do Not Force them. Once they stop by hand that is fine. Thats full hard or 0 Zero. Then count back 18 clicls on each damper.  So that will have set them to -18

Those settings will make the car very balanced and driveable.   From there we can tune the balance to suit you.

I would be happy to do an item in LF if needed about how or what to adjust to make the car change its handling.
