magister
Haven't dared looked yet! Will probably take the head off myself and if just valve damage, take the car to McMillan to have it repaired and put back together. To remove the head, is there any particular order to removing bits eg is it best to remove the manifolds first or can they be removed on the bench etc. Are there any particular pitfalls to avoid? Head nuts - any particular loosening order?Paul
Area Representative Richard Price Posted October 7, 2015 Area Representative Share Posted October 7, 2015 Hi Paul,'sorry to hear of your problem Unfortunately, I've been there a couple of times.....Bent exhaust valves are the most likely damage. You'll need to remove the exhaust manifold before lifting the head, but I'd remove both, as it makes lifting the head more manageable.Do you have a workshop manual that cover the engine? If not, then I'm sure we can find one for you to download. The K head is retained by long through stretch bolts that actually screw into the oil rail right at the bottom of the engine. The workshop manual details measuring for reuse, but it may be better to simply replace them. I can't remember (I always have the manual open at the relevant page) the method or order, but you do need to follow the correct order to avoid distortion.I'd say, read the manual, and if you're not sure, ask.
