Ian B
How easy ims it to change the oil seal on the drive shaft output on a sierra diff in situ? Any tips or do's and don'ts please?
SM25T
Step away from the diff, Mr B Easy enough ..... BUT careful you don't scratch the bore of where the seal sits as you lever the old one out.Tap new one in to same position as old one.Have done this up a mountain in the Pyrenees with just a scissor jack and my touring toolbag. You don't lose much oil at all when removing the seal ..... just a few drops, so put paper or cloth underneath.
SM25T
Remove wheel, release handbrake, unbolt caliper top and remove pads. Tie or cable tie caliper to spring above hub. Careful with brake pipe unless you have flexible hose. Unbolt deDion ear (4 bolts) and pull disc, hub and drive shaft out of diff. This gives you access to the seal. When refitting, you may well need brake piston windback tool to screw piston in clockwise to get space to refit caliper over pads. Once all refitted, press brake pedal hard a couple of times to allow self-adjuster to work ... before touching handbrake.
