Stephen Long
On the garage floor. I have discovered it'd coming from a blanking plug ..should have mentioned its a radtec. It's finger tight but it has a hexagonal depression and don't know what to put in it . It's looks to be about 13 mm across. Any ideas as to how to tighten it up please. I don't want to grip the outside of it as it appears to be made of plastic. Could I put a bolt in it. perhaps a big Allan key ? Longy
Mort
Hex key http://cpc.farnell.com/1/1/8555-hex-key-13mm-af-size-imperial-af-size-metric-13mm-hex-key-type-long-arm-long-arm-length-135mm-svhc-no-svhc-17-dec-2014-blade-length-133mm-length-135mm-longest-length-133mm-shortest-length-50mm-tool-body-material-chrome-vanadium-steel-t4411-13-ck-tools.html or suitably sized Allen key?Probably best to buy a set if you don't have one already. Or speak to John.
6speedmanual
If it's adtic it won't take a bid torque. Take a M8 bolt with 13mm across the flats head and pop it upside down in the hex hole. Turn byy gripping on bolt shank with pliers/bigger grips. Peter

Stephen Long
Thank you 6 speed, I will try this at the weekend Longy
Simon.Rogers
Were those plastic plugs only in place for shipping. I certain swapped mine out when I had a new rad. You also get the same on domestic rads. They are put in place to stop fluid/water escaping in transit after testing at the manufacturers.I could be wrong. SM25T
That does sound feasible. Repeated heating cooling cycles and all that.
Mort
StephenSimon's suggestion sounds logical, so I had a Google around and found this http://www.pistonheads.com/gAssing/topic.asp?h=0&f=101&t=1446012&mid=0&nmt=Radtec+Radiator+replacement+for+a+Sigma+engineDoes the photo shows where your plastic plug is? If so, then it may be worth contacting Carl to get the correct blanking plug.Nick
Roger King
If you can find a hex head bolt that fits the hole, it is a perfectly acceptable bodge to lock two nuts together on its shaft and then you can use a normal spanner or socket to tighten the plug. Drumster
My Radtec came with one of those black nylon/plastic blanking plugs and I just tightened it up. It's been in place for a few months (inc sprints at Goodwood and Hethel) and still appears to be watertight. However, I thought it prudent to check with Radtec given the comments on this thread and they confirmed that it's ok to use as a permanent blanking plug
Stephen Long
Aeroscreens, I certainly have the same black plastic as you. Giving Radtec a call was a good idea and thank you for sharing. I will tighten it up at the weekend. Longy
