apjenkins
Hi Tezza7,All my Ital diff filler plugs have been a ' tapered' plug secured with a 13mm A/F spanner or a 8mm Allen key so do not need a washer, are you sure you have a washer?. If you have a leaking tapered plug, wrap some PTFE tape (Plumbers PTFE tape) around it. Hope this helps!@
Paul Deslandes
Provided it's not too bad, you can recover the old one by annealing it and then filing it or use emery paper on a flat surface to remove the imperfections. Anneal by heating to red hot in a gas flame and let it cool, either by quenching in water or let it air cool, Copper doesn't harden by quenching. virden
Hi Tezza7Definitely no washer involved, I regularly take my plug out to check levels and have never used tape or sealant when replacing it. It has never leaked....... unlike the pinion end.!!
Tezza7
Thanks for the responses, I, am fairly certain there is a copper washer so I guess I'll have to bite the bullit and get under the car. Getting old makes my memory play tricks on me as I have had the plug out every year in the 7 years I've owned the car.I particularly liked the answer from Virden, I also have trouble from the pinion end so that will be another job on the list. It will be the second replacement in about 15k miles.I wonder if the original Ital van was just as bad? Maybe that was a minor fault compared to all of the others. virden
15K miles? I think most of the vans rusted away before they got that far!
