Replacing Rear (hub end) Rubber Gaiter

Hi All,

 

Can anyone advise me of what is involved (ie best practice)in replacing this rubber gaiter and the parts I need to order if more than just the gaiter.

 

I'm guessing I need to take that blooming great nut off with it's LB'ssss of torque. As ive just had a heart bypass I'm guessing it's more likely that my ribcage will snap instead of the nut coming undone 😬

I find the nuts undo really easily with a three foot long breaker bar. Find a friend to help.

 

Are you talking gaiters on drive shaft joints on a deDion ?

Hi Yes - It's the outer Gaiter on the rear nearside driveshaft - it has a miniscule nick in it - probably caused by a stone chip. Car is a 1999 Superlight

Hi Tim thanks for the mail and the attachments - pretty sure mine are the smooth ones - bugg-r will have a crawl under and look - not doing for a while just getting the info - so kind of your offer. Can you clean with meths and superglue the nick ?

I've had a matching miniscle patch from a bicycle repair kit on for quite a while - just thinking it's time to get around to it. Not causing much of a problem but I would like it right - the nick is around two or three mm is guess.
