JEM
Recently my R300 engine management light flashers while Engine ticks over after a run, but gives no problem . Today I went for a blat car started without fault . Stopped for a cupper to find engine cranking but would not fire. Removed ECU to find water inside, drained water and put on engine to dry. Engine still not start. Removed ECU again and disconnected battery, reconnected after 10 mins and try again. Success engine fired. Drove home with no fault, turned off on the drive and left for 5 mins, engine refuses to start again. I have noticed that when the engine will not fire there is no engine management light on when the ignition is turned on. This normally comes on with ignition. Has any one experienced this with a duratec engine car. Cheers Jeremy
Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 3, 2014 Member Share Posted May 3, 2014 I suggest you check battery voltage at rest, during cranking and at idle, both when it starts and when it doesn't. Dismantle, inspect and reconnect all relevant feeds and earths. Do you have a charging indicator light as well as the "engine management light"? geko
Quoting JEM: ...Removed ECU to find water inside,... Hi, This is an absolute no go for electronic components....I think your ECU is the problem. Now you have a kind of electonic lottery ECU. ☹️ Let check it from am ECU repair specialist.
JEM
Hi Jason I have connected a 12v booster to eliminate battery and still refuses to fire. I have a battery light which is on when the ignition is switched on. Gerard, I also suspect the ECU because the engine management light does not come with ignition anymore, which I would imagine is powered through the ECU ? Looks if I will have to have it checked but time is running out and should be sprinting and hillclimbing next weekend. Thanks for your response J
geko
Hi, no engine mgmt light on, during start is a sign for a defect ECU. The best case is, only the 12V power supply for the ECU is gone. Maybe a pin from the ECU connector is corroded or have bad connection.
Mark Durrant
Jeremy Have you checked the ECU fuse?
JEM
Hi mark Checked all fuses which are good, but I disconnected the battery last and tried again earlier. Engine management light is on and guess what it starts. Going to give it a run tomorrow and test again. It seems that the fault is intermittent when engine is hot. Do you know if MBE will test ECU themselves, if so I will be making a trip this week. J
