Speedo Quill Removal

Blokko

Recommended Posts

Got a garage local to work to look at replacing my speedo sensor on the Ford Type 9 gearbox fitted to my SV. They have reported that the quill has broken too far into the gearbox and cannot be removed without dropping the engine / gearbox.

Any thoughts as to if / how this could be done without going to those lengths?

Steve,

Yes, it can be done without removing the gearbox. I've done it *smile*

You'll trash the cap that hold it in place, and have to drill a couple of holes in the tunnel to be able to drift the new cap into place, but it can be done.

Hi Steve,

I managed to remove the cover and replace it without needing to drill any holes. Getting the cover off was easy, but putting it back on was a bit more involved. Trying to find a leverage point on the chassis to pop the top of the cover down was fun, but possible.

Good access under the car will help, also found that if the car is on a slope without the gear box lid in place the fluid can leak out.....

Good luck

Richard
