Heater Removal Questions

I'll be whipping out my heater very soon and just want to do a quick sanity check. Checking the archives, I presume it's something like:

1. Disconnect coolant pipes.

2. Unscrew x6 heater screws and control cable.

3. Use appropriate tool to remove existing bead of silicon.

4. Unplug the wire to the fan switch under the dash.

5. Stand and admire large hole and have a cuppa 😬

6. Rivet and silicon seal cc blanking plate in place.

7. Install new coolant pipe.

Questions:

a. Do I need to drain the coolant completely or can it be done in some way that just then requires it to be bled?

b. I have a bleed tee installed, should I re-install it when sans heater?

c. Any other advice or tips?

Many thanks, Andrew

A) yes

B) yes - I have mine fitted at the back of the head. On a K you need to maintain the hose between the water rail and t stat housing.

C) when drilling the rivet holes for the blanking plate there are cables, fuel and brake lines going down the transmission tunnel. The drill tends to pop through the ally rather quickly!!

Andrew, rather than riveting the blanking panel in place I drilled holes to line up with the existing rivnuts for the heater, and attached it with the old machine screws from the heater. That way I can take it off again quite easily which gives good access to under the dash when necessary *thumbup*
