tin duck dave
So there I am heading for home after Exeter kit car show pulling around 5000 rpm in 4th up long steep climb when sudden whoosh followed by faceful of steam and water from bonnet vents (thankfully helmet on with visor down) which then cleared. Temp gauge showing about 90 - 95 , oil pressure 4 - 5 bar so eased off and coasted home for about 2 miles, temp and oil pressure both stayed at similar level. Quick check shows header tank cap has blown off tank and is now sitting on intake manifold. Screwing it back on reveals very loose fit on thread. I had actually just purchased a new tank as i did not feel the cap was tightening up very well before, but am I overlooking some other potential cause. No evidence of oil in water or vice versa and had earlier sat idling for nearly 30 minutes with temp holding steady so I dont think head gasket. Any thoughts or suggestions. charlie_pank
Fit new tank, carefully refill system with coolant purging all air bubbles, then run it for a bit. Get a head gasket coolant tester from halfrauds and follow the instructions.
