Once upon a time, many years ago, there was a man called David Mirylees, a smashing bloke and a Lotus nut. He reformed the Lotus Seven Club in 1983, and being as there weren't that many sevens around, all numbers started with a 7, naturally. I think that my number was 7526, I've got my original membership card somewhere. Anyway, after a while we reached about membership number 9999 and whoever was in charge of membership at that time (one of Sheila Cheasman, Guy Munday or Julie Richens) decided to start again at 2nnn. So that's why the sequence may not make immediate sense. We'll soon be coming up to membership number 6999, at which point we'll leap to 10,000 to avoid any problems with number duplication.
