Davesvroadsport
K-Series 1800 not modified, 18,000 miles and has just developed a high-pitched whine from what seens to be the upper part of the engine. Sorry not more spercific - not mechanically minded particularly. Just wanted to get an idea if the situation before I rush her off to James Whiting! Cheers- Dave
Dave Allen
Dave. Don't know if this is any help but i had a whine from top part of engine and it turned out to be the altenator bearing that had gone. Easy to do just take belt off to elliminate. TomB
Is it VVC? Could it be associated gubbins?
jakeandlizzy
I would check the timing belt as a start. As it is from the top of the engine, it is not likely a bearing or anything like that -- but sounds can resonate strangely in these cars! so pull off the front cover and have a look! Any sign of fraying, I would change it on the spot -- easy job!!! (If you have access to an impact driver anyway and cam locking tool).
