gavinj
Hi all I have been looking at the PTP site and noticed the offer a complete K Series cam upgrade package with either Piper BP270h or BP285h cams, am I correct in thinking the 285 is NOT a straight swap due to standard valve springs not being compatible ? No mention on the PTP site ..... Thanks
peter clarke
Correct, the 285 needs different valve springs otherwise you will get coil binding
oilyhands
The lobes on the BP285H will also most likely foul on the head. To be honest there are better profiles to choose than the BP270 and if you shop around you will get them at a better price too. Oily
gavinj
Thanks for that, i'm thinking a set of 633 grind, verniers and SS (eu3) ecu will be a good simple upgrade ?
oilyhands
633s will make a good upgrade if they are timed properly, the ECU can be directly remapped with a better calibration than the SS by Mark at Z&F tuning. 1320s are a little hotter than 633s if that is what you are after. gavinj
Super, thanks for that Oily Will the 1320s be ok with stock springs and followers and what should I set the tdc lift to ?
oilyhands
1320s are *just* OK with stock springs, however they may foul on the tops of the follower bores, some do, some dont. Lift at TDC will depend on what the ECU will tolerate but you can start at 50/40 and go up from there. Remapping the idle will help the ECU cope with a bit more overlap. gavinj
Oily Have ordered a pair of 633's and verniers today, going to get Mark (ZandF) to re-map the ecu as you suggested. What would you suggest the TDC lift to be set to ? Thanks
oilyhands
If you'd bought them from me they would have come with those settings and be a good deal cheaper. Lift at TDC figures are published on my cam timing page. For an otherwise standard engine 40 thou inlet, 35 thou exhaust. If Mark is able to adjust the idle and program out the stalling you could usefully increase the lift at TDC to 50/40.
