DuncanW
Whilst replacing the bottom plate on k-series dry sump after an oil change. I've found that previous owner has managed to strip the thread on one of the four bolt holes. Could anyone suggest a suitable repair please. I don't think these bolts need much torque. Ive used helecoils before but is there another method? Is there a suitable metal repair paste for threads?
Bricol
If you've used helicoils before, that's probably the way to go. I don't know the applicaion (mine's wet sump), but - a longer screw - might just pick up on the undamaged threads at the bottom of the hole? Can you drill/tap it deeper without risk of breaking out inside? Drill/tap out to next size up? I'm not keen on plastic metal/JB Weld etc - if the threads stripped out, there's nowt for the stuff to get an anchor on, especially in an oily hole. Stationary M25 Traveller
Is there enough metal around the hole to drill and tap next size up ?
DuncanW
Managed to get longer bolt to hold. Thanks Seemed to be a lump of sealant in bolt hole restricting original bolt. Now sorted...Thank you
RD
Should there be a next time; I used these for years in work here. Much better than helicoils and easy to fit as long as you can drill & tap.
