Mort
Thanks for that. I'll give serious consideration to removing it at the next service. What size holes do you drill in the gasket?
Johnty Lyons
8 to 10 mm and clamp gasket between two bits of wood as it has a metal insert and if drill catches it will tear it apart ☹️

Bricol
Use a step or cone drill - next to no chance of it snagging. Just don't go further than needed. Bri

john milner
I doubt it fits but Eliseparts do an ant-surge baffle and what I've noticed is it has several small holes exactly where the same can be done on a 7 K series sump gasket. Question is why are only a couple of holes recommended when the Elise part has loads? Link to Eliseparts sump baffle
Johnty Lyons
Because its a baffle and still needs a sump gasket Its taking the place of the windage plate which has a large gap where those holes are . IMHO of course.
john milner
From the pics I'd say the eliseparts baffle also functions as a windage plate but I don't think the Elise gasket has a ledge. It probably has more holes as it is made from strong sheet metal rather than gasket material. It has got me thinking though a few more smaller holes may be better than two larger ones. I'm also thinking of one small hole at the lowest end of the block. Clearer pics of the Lotus baffle
Jetto
What's the difference between a windage plate and a baffle and a sump gasket with a ledge?
john milner
The Elise plate and a Caterham ledge do look very similar. Odd that only two holes are ever recommended for the ledge.
