Ok, Call me ☹️ but i want my Heater Back In.

I have purchased a second hand heater and hope to fit soon looks relatively simplejob

ie have to drill out the cover plates and bolt on, i have traced the wires to fan but has anyone got a pic of the shut off valve set up they could send me. ie mount, and

I would like to know where the cable run is best fitted, or indeed where it was originally fitted from factory,

Well i've got a heater fitted which has never had a heater valve fitted,

as part of my upgradious i've fitted and heater valve and converted to a sealed system. photo's on my.lotussevenclub.com

I've just fitted the cable and it's located under the dash as I want to try and keep the dash clear.

Like CaterBram Jnr my heater hasn't a heater valve fitted. With the fan switch off I am not sure how much heat comes through the vents compared with all the other sources of heat forward of the bulkhead. But I may follow CaterBram Jnr's route and fit a heater control valve when I upgrade to a sealed cooling system this winter,

I am just struggling with the replacement thermostat elbow which appears to have the correct 22mm x 1.5 thread to match the new radiator fan switch but needs tapping out some more.....and the prices of 22mm taps are horrendous. mmm. *confused* I am not quite sure how to proceed at the moment.

I've done an old cheat from moding an escort years ago, use the original houseing & cap but drill a 2mm hole in the pressure relief valve, with the levels correct this lets any trapped air out to the header but no appreciably flow. the top & bottom hoses were from caterham as was the tank & heater valves all the rest came from ebay.

i think in total its cost around 120 to do the heater mod & convert to sealed

Thanks CaterBram Jnr. I was wondering how you managed to use the original thermostat tower.

I too was considering using a Sigma expansion tank and cap from CC and mounting it forward of the engine but was concerned whether it would be high enough compared with the recommended flat shape Rover 200 expansion tank (which appears difficult to get hold of now and is expensive new (Rimmer Bros)). Your solution is very elegant without having to take the hoses all the way back to the bulkhead (nor having to remove the nose all the time) .vo

How is the expansion tank mounted? Its difficult to see from the blog photos. Did you use a mount from CC or make your own? Also I don't have the passenger side diagonal bracing bar in the engine bay and the passenger footwell is a short one with the battery mounted where long footwell would be.

What size hoses (ID & lengths) and T-piece (plastic) did you order from e-Bay? I already have top and bottom silicone hoses (blue) from CC.

How is your heater hose from the centre of the cylinder connected? I currently have the heater hose connected to a right angled metal tube which is then attached to the outlet of the cylinder head/block by a 3cm length of black hose. I wonder if there is a more elegant solution such as a right angled silicone hose.

Sorry to the OP for going O/T but to bring the post back on track. Did you have to mount the heater control vavle to anything or is it just held in place by the hoses?

Where did you mount the heater control valve?

Finally, can you notice the difference when the heater valve is open or closed with the fan off?

Thanks for the tips. I have the bonnet off at the moment and am pondering the positioning of things *smile*

The only place the header tank could go to get the hights right was around where i've put it, either mounting from the cross member or passenger footwell as there is insufficient clearance between the top of the heater and the bonnet.

The expansion tank is mounted on a munson ring clamp which has an m8 threaded bar and the tank is set so the cap just clears the bonnet.

The Heater valve is held in place by the hoses, and the the heater control cable is mounted on the bulkhead behind the master brake cylinder.

And yes you can really notice the difference, one point to note before stripping all the hoses off make sure you take the chance to fully flush the cooling system, this also made a big difference to the heater efficiency and I would expect the overall cooling efficiency.

Many thanks for all the parts info *cool*

I had found the photo gallery. I will work out how to down load the photos so that my photo software can zoom them.

And thanks for the info on the height envelope for the expansion tank and the heater. That was concerning me too.

I already did a radiator flush (Wynn's) a few weeks back when I fitted a new thermostat and I took the radiator off and flushed it/back flushed it. I will flush the whole system again when I change all the hoses. I think I will take the heater out and flush/back flush that as well.

I can email the photo's through to you in the morning if that helps, as i'm currentley out.

if there is any othere info or pictures plese feel free to ask.

one point to note is that the top & bottom hoses need trim to fit nice and the amount of 1m hoses is just enough for mine so consider if the routes on yoirs are longer as yoi ,ighh need an extra length.

You don't always need a tap, u can by a square file witch has 4 steps on each side of the square, alternative use 2 washers.

I have just a header tank from Car builders solutions and they look very nice.

There is enough room for the tank just before the engine and u can use a Fiesta tower from the model up to 1986.

Clousta, if you need anything just call or drop bye.
