Midnight
The catalyst on my Mondeo has started rattling. It sounds like some of the internal baffling has broken away and it sounds like it got loose bolts inside. I think I already know the answer to this problem. Get a new one, but do any of you know of any other ways around this problem as a new cat will probably cost as much as the car is worth.
Stationary M25 Traveller
Taking speed bumps too fast can shatter the internal matrix. Look for aftermarket supplier of exhausts, don't go to Ford. They are not as frighteningly-priced as when cars were first fitted with them.
mav
This happened to my cousins Mundane years ago - be very careful. his sucked some of the bits back up into the engine. Replace asap - as SM25T says find your local exhaust manuf / supplier and get a 3rd party pattern part.
Badger Bill
Dude, try here or here and count your lucky stars that you don't have a crazy fandangled twin cat set-up like I had to fork out £250+ for on my old subaru legacy! £60-odd quid seems to cover it. Simple nail in job on the drive. Max 2 hours inc brew stop and the finding of missplaced spanners. Best get any fittings from ford IMO, the aftermarket ones are a bit shonkey. ie specialist bolts if they need replacing, gaskets and the fire seal (metal wire cone shaped gasket thing) BB PS I have just found where I got mine from here Edited by - Badger Bill on 2 Jul 2009 08:58:
