POBC - getting a VHPD through the MOT

POBC - 1st MOT on the Toxic Frog (oh, the irony...) for me, never had to think about getting a car through an emissions test before *rolleyes*.

Wisdom seems to be that fitting a cat may not be enough to get my 98 SLR VHPD through the emissions test. Is there a concensus on how this can be done ?

I'm fairly dumb when it comes to all this ECU trickery - why should it not pass with a cat ? *confused*

Strange one - did factory cars leave without a cat fitted ?

Hi,

I will be putting my Feb 98 VHPD through the MOT in May (1st time in my care), it has alway got through with a visual inspection.

Checked the VIN numbers and according to the info on the link above it was not fitted with a CAT. I am not sure why. Does anyone know?

Should I be concerned

Anything up to and including 'R' registration is visual. 'S' registrations need the cat and will be tested for emmissions. (I understand if you can prove the engine is older you could get away with visual but we need more expert comment on this)

My SLR was SVA'D with a cat and passed the test. Needs to be very very hot.

Philip,

Put some injector cleaner/emmisions reducer in with a tank of posh petrol,

Take the car for a good thrashing up and down the motorway.

Make sure the engine is nice and hot when they check the emissions (ask them to do that test first).

The worst that can happen is that it fails, but the above usually works for me.

Good luck,

Bruce.

As car was factory built, cat is required. Caterham do not have any in stock (6-8 weeks was being generous - Darren thought the 'special' VHPD cats means unlikley order... )

So - has someone got :

1) a spare Cat for a VHPD 4-2-1 system ?

or

2) a spare K cat-equipped exhaust for "temporary" purposes ?

or

3) 7-friendly MOT station in Scotland....

Getting desperate, as I cannot bear the thought of the car being off the road waiting on an MOT
