Neil_K
Hi all, I need a jack to errr ........ jack the car up! What jacks can anyone suggest? Main criteria is that it fits under the Seven (obviously) and is as lightweight / portable as possible and not too pricey, but other than that I don't know much about them. What was the BB on jacks recently?
Sheds Moderator
If you aren't too bothered about it being ally then get a steel one. Machine Mart £60 ish for one with a nice low minimum height and a decent lift. The cheapest ones don't lift high and won't easily go under a 7 as they have a high saddle height when down. Then again the deal ones with a pair of stands can be a good buy and they are for next to nothing.
Neil_K
To be honest, the price is irrelevant if it won't fit under the 7!!
Dickie Normuss
Neil There was a thread on just this a few days back. I bought mine from Machime Mart for about £35-40 I think. Fits easily under the 7 VX HPC - Loud and proud here Watch out, whatever hits the fan will not be distributed evenly
BAZZA
I have just bought one from MM on advise from here, 110 mm min height, fits under 7 fine. Made of steel so a bit heavy. £35 part no. CTJ 2LR Barry R400 Duratec No.

Neil_K
Cheers. Didn't think to try the 'Wanted' section when doing a search! How portable are they?
Neil_K
Blimey, 19.5 kgs!!
Alan Bowler
A cheapo normal height jack plus 2 (or 4) strategically placed planks of wood in the garage to drive onto works fine for me. Halfrauds often give you a couple of stands for free on special. AB
Neil_K
I think it would be handy to have one I could take to track days etc. The semi-pro one recommended from MM is the heaviest they do!
Alan Bowler
Theres always someone with a posh bulk-buy race jack to borrow on track days now AB
BAZZA
Don't matter how light it is if it don't fit under the car Barry R400 Duratec No.
Roger Ford
The machine mart "Racing" alloy jack is much lighter and more portable than the bulk buy jack. I have one of each - the MM one goes away with me. Hint: remove one of the handles to make it easier to pack.
Neil_K
That looks cool - but pricey! Does it lift particularly high? I would assume not if it starts so low
oilyhands
Costco do a very well priced aluminium jack, spot on and very low entry. Oily
Sheds Moderator
Neil, I said some don't *easily* go under the car. This means you either need to lift the car on its suspension or roll it onto a couple of planks before putting the jack under. Now the price *is* relevant because you may decide that a couple of planks are cheaper than a fancy jack. 😬
Roger Ford
MM jack doesn't go as high as the bulk buy jack, but it's not bad. Max 376mm according to the specs. Doesn't have the "quick lift" feature, so takes a few pumps to get it to it's starting point if the starting point is fairly high.
ECR
I recommend the Costco jack too. Ex Chairman Roger
