Maybe the best orange car in the world...

I collected the car today from Crawley (with the help of Rob J) and drove it back to Somerset via family in Newbury. We avoided main roads and had a great blast along A roads.

It is fantastic, and better than I imagined. The 160 is a lovely car.

The car handles very well, and has quite a bit more 'poke' than expected. My intentions to run the car in gently with low revs were not always stuck to. Overtaking on A roads was not much of a problem.

Interesting reactions from folks too. A few thumbs up, a few challenges to go faster (but declined).

It took a while to get used to the (rather) limited visibility behind (I need to do a bit of work on my mirrors). I also had a few little anoyances like the key fob got in the way when using the clutch.

The IVA

It took two attempts to get through the IVA (but nothing to do with my build skills, I hasten to add). Fortuntely I paid caterham to get it through, and this turned out to be a good move. The hassle would have been considerable.

Registration

This took 2 weeks. The DVLA returned my built up vehicle report for some extra details, and this slowed down, but when I rang them they were willing to help rush it through.

Now that Ned's car has passed it's IVA then give it 10 or 15 days to get the plates, we could tee something up for a 160 meet in Sept or Oct.  I haven't seen anything from Peter or Mike but at least 3 of us are still in contact, does someone want to suggest a few alternatives?

I'm open to suggestions...

From September on I can only do Sundays but I'm fairly free(ish) towards the end of This month.

I bought some better 'racetech' mirrors; I got fed up with the standard IVA ones flopping around.

I have not tested them in action yet, but with convex glass, the field of view seems much better.

Any news Ned, or is it too soon?

I can do the first 2 Sunday's in September for a potential meet. Hope fully if all the 160s can make it, so Peter, Mike, Ned, Simon and myself with maybe Newbury as a central point. Does everyone still read this blog.?

Hello all,

I can can make he 13th (but not the 6th) Newbury sounds a good location. Perhaps we could have a pub lunch?

I look forward meeting everyone, if it works out.

Is anyone else going to the Poole event on the 21st?

Ok let's go with that as an option, how about 12 noon for a meet?  It would be good if everyone can confirm that they have the details

Ok 12 noon... (Thank you - my wife would like to come too)

By the way, Peter and I met up at today's Poole Quay meet.

There was quite a lot of interest in the 160s.

Looks good to me.

Poole was good fun and a very good turn out. Simon and I had a veritable crowd around our cars wanting to know about the 160 that they had read about but not seen too much. However, good advice for those attending next year; don't park under a lamppost because the seagulls will 'lighten their load' all over your bonnet as they take off to grab a piece of fish!

I sent my contact details to you all by direct message. Looking forward to seeing you at the pub!

Finally on the road today! I got the V5 in the morning post, rushed around to the local garage to get the plates, then down to Crawley.

Unfortunately there is a new paint blemish due to something dripping on the nose cone in their garage... they are going to fix it, though.

Then the drive home. Amazingly fun to drive, isn't it!? The M25 was not pleasant, but every other mile was accompanied by a huge grin.

Looking forward to seeing you all soon!
