  1. I've just received my DRE shift light from Mike's bulk buy and it looks great.

Could any fellow Blatchatters give me some really simple fitting instructions? Any suggestions, particularly with pictures, from anyone who's done this would be most gratefully received.

It would be ideal if the unit could be unplugged easily for the tonneau to be fitted.

    Thanks

  2. Finally got round to getting my nose cone painted. When it was masked off a 4" band looked far too wide. I phoned Caterham Midlands who couldn't have been more helpful - they measured two cars in the showroom and both had a 2.5" band. That's what I went for and I'm really pleased with the result.

As the same question was put by Catastrada recently I thought I should put a comment on this thread. Thanks to those who offered suggestions - I daresay a 4" band would be right with a bonnet stripe but not without.

  3. When I took my car to be painted a 4" band looked far too wide when it was masked off. Phoned Caterham Midlands who measured the noseband of two cars in the showroom - both had a 2.5" band. That's what I went for - if you want a picture of my car please let me know (it looks right to me).

The problem was the dual mass flywheel, but as for the exact cause of the judder I don't know (you'd need to talk to someone more mechanically minded, I'm afraid). I must say that I had no difficulty with my dealer (Stanwells of Boston) - replacements were carried out twice without question. It's certainly made me wary of the car, though, and I shall probably sell it before the warranty runs out for fear of picking up the bill myself in the future.

  5. I've had 2 new clutches and flywheels on my 2004 Passat TDi 130, first time at about 18,000 miles, the second at about 28,000. They were replaced both times under warranty. Symptoms were exactly the same - clutch judder when cold, disappearing when warm.

The dealer claimed that this wasn't a known problem on Passats, though Honest John's forum seems to suggest a general VAG fault here

  6. I've decided to have the nose of my car painted orange, the same as the rest of the car. The nose is currently black and I want to leave the noseband unpainted.

I have a local sprayshop which will do a good job, but I'm keen to get the measurements of the noseband correct. Any guidance would be most welcome.

    Thanks

  7. This came past my house in Alford late yesterday afternoon! It made me feel very nostalgic - I've just had to part with my Superlight. Only had a fleeting glance of this R300 as I was mowing my lawn! I wish I'd had the chance to look at it properly.

Sadly now Sevenless, and missing it!

  8. I've just arrived home after an absolutely brilliant day at the Silverstone Slalom. Thanks to Steve Mell for organising it and congratulations to Mad Malc on winning. The only downside was that Junior beat me into third place and I dare say he'll have something to say about that here! *mad* A rematch is due methinks.

  9. I bet this is the half-shaft. The symptoms are exactly the same as on my 1998 VX Classic - a clunk heard when cornering. I suggest replacement with uprated shafts if this turns out to be the problem - Derek Moore at Caterham Midlands will advise.
