  1. Hi Malcolm - glad you enjoyed the weather!

Re interesting cars - we were on our way back home (the long way: along the coast as far as Hastings before turning north for Croydon) having stayed for a couple of nights at Brighton Marina - on the way out of the Marina we passed loads of classic Minis on their way in,  and also several old MGs near Peacehaven.

  2. John - I don't really like the Orcus - it looks even more fragile than the five spoke.  What exactly is PCD?  This is the kind of thing I need to know if I go for aftermarket wheels.

Jonathan - I've had one search which had about 3,000 hits (!) but didn't seem to give the answers I was looking for.  But I'll have another go.  Just try a different search query.........

  3. Up until mid February I was running my Seven (140bhp 1.8K SV) on 16" HPC five-spokes with 205/45/16 Toyos.

Severe accident damage means I'll have to replace at least 3 of them, so given that five-spokes are no longer available and following advice that I should get smaller diameter wheels to improve the handling, what wheel diameter/width and tyre size would you recommend for road use only.  I don't want to go down to 13" as I already have ground clearance issues!  I'd appreciate the experience of any SV owners who've changed from the 16" to a smaller size.

What do I need to know to find out if a particular style of wheel from a non-Caterham supplier will fit my car?

  4. I have a 1.8K 140bhp SV which has been used entirely on the road.  In 12 years of ownership it has accumulated just short of 128,000 miles.  On the advice of Redline, the foam was removed around 40k and never replaced - since then I've not had any problems whatsoever.  Definitely dump the electric oil pressure gauge and replace it with a mechanical one, check the oil level HOT frequently and change oil and filter every 6k.  Worked for me!

  5. Green, with yellow cycle wing tips and yellow nosecone ring, on Woodmansterne Lane, Wallington around 12:30 Sunday 24th - we were in the metallic grey Suzuki SX4 with the 7 Club sticker on the rear window that you kindly let out.

Only the second time I've seen a lady driver in a 7!

  6. JK - would the small Summit mirror be an improvement on the passenger's door-mounted mirror if fitted to the top left of the screen? - I've never been ble to adjust the door mirror to give a decent view.

My family bought me one of the very wide mirrors mentioned by ALASKOSSIE on http://www.mirrorsforsevens.com/index.htm which gives a very wide but shallow view and takes a bit of getting used to - things passing by close on the left appear to be moving across the rear of the car!

  7. Only cars with foam fitted or suffered foam failure
    engine size 1800cc Rover K
    approx bhp 140
have you suffered overheating issues / airlock etc. N
    appollo / laminova fitted N
    wet sump only Y
Type of running :- general road in all weather conditions 365 daya a year - over 60,000 miles in 4 years

The following questions are for Foam failure only
approx age  of foam in months
    year of foam failure
    approx milage before failure
oil grade type and brand used.
    coolant type and brand used.
did coolant require top up during this period that the foam was fitted.
cooling related  failures / issues during this period . Y/N
any major engine issues / work carried out prior to foam failure. Y/N

Note oil was Syner Z every 6,000 miles, new foam every 12,000, coolant required topping up around once a month, but oil never needed topping up between services.  Coolant loss was caused by a leaking valve and heater matrix.  Both replaced, valve still leaks a little.

  8. *thumb_up*  On the B269 Limpsfield Road, by Waitrose in Sanderstead, an orange R300 with black noseband reg R300 ?YBS? heading south towards Warlingham.

We were in the grey Suzuki SX4x4 on our way back to Croydon.

  9. Heading north on the Purley Way between Fiveways and the Croydon Road junction at around 3:30pm, and orange 7 with black rollcage/rollbar, no spare and 'Academy' on the back.  Reg might have ended something like 64 DZZ?

  10. Mark - I'd be really interested to know how good these are when you have them fitted.  Nearside door-mounted mirror never seems to show enough.  The pictures on the website show a mirror fitted with the door in place - are you going to try that out?  Or just use it without the doors?

  11. Both Heading east on the A 25 late afternoon Sunday - first was dark blue, didn't catch the number plate, near Sundridge, and the second was in Westerham, highly polished alloy with red wings and nose registration C7BEY, I think.  Waved to both completely forgetting I was driving my wife's grey Suzuki, not LE0.

Beautiful day for a blat, if a little cool.............

  12. My last office had a long drive with humps that were just high enough to tap the front number plate so regardless of what sticky pads, velcro or tape I used it kept on falling off.  So I drilled four small holes in the number plate and wired it to the grille (previously I had one wired through the nose cone but had a lump torn out when I hit one hump and ripped the plate off one side).

  13. Green/yellow with clams - registration perhaps L766NEH?

Heading north towards Nutfield on the Outwood road at around 4:45pm today - we were heading in the opposite direction in a gunmetal Suzuki SX4 (LE0 is still in dock *grumpy* ).  Great day for a blat, at least after the rain had stopped!
