thanks anthony, i tried this afternoon with the car on jacks and it's frustratingly tight working. my appreciation of keyhole surgeons went up a few notches. looks like a trip to the garage on monday to get on the hoist (and have someone with knowledge watching). what a frustrating task.

cheers elie, just read the build manual which says fit it all before putting the engine in 'cos it's tricky afterwards so expecting a educational day tomorrow probably followed by a trip to the local garage to blag half an hour on the hoist.

thanks elie, i'm assuming the quill drive is the rightangled thingy that connects it to the gearbox. i fondled it today from a distance but will have to wait til tomorrow to try and get the car high enough to get it off. it seems to be behind a prop shaft mount - but i was working blind! i talked to a nice man at reline today and discovered there are 2 versions around that time (95/96), one with a brass end and one with an integral ali washer but i shan't know til tomorrow which it is. these things always come at inconvenient times, i've a trackday on the 24th and an MOT to fit in before that. ...but at least i've got a seven so why grumble.

looks like the speedo cable has given up on my '95 Xflow and caterham are out of stock. anybody know if there is an equivalent from a tintop? also, any hints and tips for replacement without loosing knuckle skin would be appreciated.
