Went out into Wales for a blat a couple of weeks ago in my HPC. Coming round a bend at 60 odd MPH the car cut out completely and I coasted to a halt. The car started immediately on the turn of the key and performed faultlessly for the remainder of the journey although the rev counter was doing funny things, with the needle fluctuating ☹️
On subsequent trips a bit of a misfire developed and the car cut out several more times but always started fine afterwards I did a bit of research in the blatchat archives and people were indicating that he Vecta immobilisers were less than reliable... so last weekend I took it off the car.
Not a bad job; just disconnected all the wires and joined the ones where the immobiliser had been spliced into the loom. It took about half an hour in total. Decided that rather than fit another, I will rely on the removable steering wheel 😬
I don’t know if I am imagining this but the car now seems MUCH smoother and revs more freely *confused*Could a faulty immobiliser have affected the running of the car?

Anyone got a Caterham Speedo for sale? Even a faulty one will do as I only want a case with a good glass and bezel. I have a SPA digital Speedo I want to mount in the case behind the glass…
I want to keep the one I have so I can always put the car back to original it’s a 1997 car if that makes any difference.

Yes Rob, they were lacking a bit of grunt… some rear traction as well! Great day though, really enjoyed it as did Chris. He is badgering me for a go in the HPC now!
trying to find time to update the web site!!

Myles
It’s a standard MBE system as supplied by Caterham.
Just been out in the car again and the needle wavers by 1000 RPM on a steady throttle. Runs great, no miss fire or anything so I suspect it may be the rev counter or maybe a connection?

The rev counter on my 1997 HPC seems to have a mind of its own… the needle fluctuates all the time and sometimes sticks at 4000 RPM. I am not confident its reading right either…
It’s a Caterham branded one… anyone else experienced problems?
While I am on, anyone got one for sale? Either a standard one or even a different make?

The scavenge pump looked to be in good condition but he replaced it anyway…
Any more suggestions before he starts calling the Samaritans 😬

Guys.
Trying to help my mate out here… He has recently bought a Triumph T120 motorbike which is cosmetically sound but smokes like hell. So far he has replaced…
Guides
Pistons and Barrels (Morgo 750 conversion)
Oil pump
Oil pipes
Pressure relief valve
Checked the engine breathers
All to no avail… The bike smoked with the old barrels and pistons on although these weren’t worn, the old guides weren’t that bad either.
What seems to be happening is that the sump is filling with to much oil and not returning to the tank… but all seems well in this area though so I am at a loss what to recommend next...
Anyone any ideas? His wife tells me he is getting desperate and has removed his shoe laces and hidden all sharp implements 😬 😬

Wanted
Re-packable type silencer. To fit 2 ltr engine about 200 BHP. Its to go on a special (autotest car)and a seven type silencer would be a reasonable type match…
Anyone got one that they want to sell? Doesn’t matter if it’s a bit noisy so all you guys that have replaced silencers to get onto some circuits may find a good home for your old one here!! 😬 😬
Please mail me if you have one
Edited to say he prefers a re-packable one as it burns so much oil 😳 😳 😳
