  1. John, driving is present tense, drove is past. I'm not driving it now.. Rs200, I was changing a track, not checking a text, new cars wouldn't be fitted with aux sockets if it was against the law to change tracks on a phone whilst driving.. Back on topic, I'm glad most people think it's a top end issue/vvc related. I'm just waiting for some time off work so I can take it back to my garage, hopefully after your advice I can point them in the right direction. Thanks for your help

    A chap did one in a Westfield, he used a rotrex c94 I think it was, needed a lot of custom bits to get it to fit...

  6. Well, i do...but the gauge says i dont. I need to replace the one i have for a mechanical gauge. The garage tested it last week, they said its fine until the engines under load, then it drops to around 30...
  7. After leaving it all night...here it is! You can hear the tapping almost straight away so you dont have to bore yourself and watch all of it, only reason i left it running was because it started to hunt. Also, skip to 9.30 can you hear the induction sucking? Its only started to do this after they have messed with the top end, its hunting...bad, revving on its own free will and that constant sound of sucking....   9. Yeah its funny, they go up in value when you want to buy one but when you come to sell it, they come down a lot! Same with anything i suppose! But yeah it has a ceramic bezel. Many thanks!

  11. Giles - I thought it was high up hence the tappets, but some mechanics seem to think its bottom end. Its been tappety for a while but sometimes i can rev up to 3k without it making a noise, others i only have to go to 2.5 and then it starts. Ive set the go pro up with the mic under the bonnet to try and take a better video. RJ - Few people have mentioned exhaust, wouldn't that be a consistent sound?

  13. This is a 1.8 vvc 160. Tappets have been replaced which have made it a lot quieter. On tick over its quiet, as soon as you get to 2.5-3k it starts with this! Few people are saying it's piston slap, others say it's something to do with the crank, has anyone else had a similar sound? Video Many thanks Tom

  15. You can't get much power out of a sigma compared to a duratec, cost a fortune just to get to 200hp..

Yeah the thought has crossed my mind, I just can't help but think if I'm gonna be spending £500 - £1000, that's a good start to a duratec, I do want big (ish) power down the line, if it means the caterham being garaged for a year then that's what I will have to do, just a shame it couldn't have happened nearer October time!

  18. Adam, I've had your write up printed off and on my work bench in the garage for a few months! Very helpful, I'm just wondering if I can put the lump in the car running a standard 150hp and build from there.
  19. I've searched and found a lot of posts, but not all were relevant to the question that I had. Yes in the future ill be changing the cams, gettin throttle bodies etc etc, but for now it's literally a case of gettin the engine in for as cheap as possible and building from there. I know about raceline, and their kits for sumps etc, I just needed to know if I could get away with using most of the ancillaries, if they would fit. Thank you for posting birkin
  20. POBC, Im moving from a 160 VVC K to a Duratec, The K developed a tapping noise, replaced the tappets, which made it quieter but now i get the tapping under load over 2.5k. Few people are saying piston slap, few people are saying other bottom end issues. So im looking at a conversion (that was always the plan), if i got a Duratec from a fiesta st with all ancillaries, what could i use and what would i need to change? Many Thanks Tom

  24. Hi, I have purchased a cat start kit from another member, but it has come without instructions. I have searched on the forum but I haven't found anything regarding instructions. Can anyone advise or upload the original instructions so i can get this fitted? It hasn't come with the big red button either, where is the best place to purchase one? Many Thanks
