  3. Hi SM25T I recall our correspondence in 2007 as it was only the year before in 2006 that I bought my 7 and joined L7C. Yes a 620R on Guernsey may seem extreme but most of my driving tends to be in France. StuB thanks for the linky. Four replies from L7C members straightaway confirms what CC said to me that SLR's are in demand ! Edited by - SLR69 on 27 Jul 2014 00:43:30

    R500 Propshaft Guard

I would suggest everyone fits one having seen what happens when a U/J fails at speed and the prop shaft lets go. Saw a Caterham last year where this happened which destroyed the passenger side transmission tunnel and much of the passenger seat. If there had been a passenger in the car at the time the injuries would have been horrendous !
  6. Sorry to those who feel offended that these items are for sale on eBay but over the years that I have been a member I have frequently seen items for sale on Blatchat that are on eBay and not seen this comment before. Personally I think the first dibs situation isn't necessarily the best and I have previously had problems when selling items on Blatchat The first was where I received a reply with a post on Blatchat with a 1st dibs and someone else also sent me a private message and they both arrived at the same time or I didn't know which was first - which one do I give priority to !? It's easier therefore sticking the items on eBay and then at least everyone has a chance. The second was where I previously organised a Bulk Buy for club members for Optimates and over 100 members benefitted from a good price but some dropped out. So I wasn't faced with a loss I had to sell them on eBay, so without eBay (like it or loathe it), I would have had a problem. I was going to mention a brand new tyre rack, Mike Barnby split rims, slicks and various one off's that I wouldn't know how to price such as a front splitter (like the Caterham RST-V8), rear spolier, etc, etc, that I have that I will be selling on eBay but I better not mention that on here now.....!
  7. Half Hood Plus now listed here: Half Hood Plus
  8. Sorry to those that have sent me a private message via Blatchat but for some reason I cannot open them at the moment and am also having various computer problems. Daveperry, I am yet to list the SBFS half hood on eBay, so if you want to send me a message about it with an offer via one of the other items I have for sale please do, otherwise I hope to list it shortly. Epicurus/TrevorA, I see you are interested in the SLR wheel centres, so please feel free to make a bid on these and good luck.
  9. I have listed already or will be listing various Caterham parts on eBay over the next 24 hours including: - "Nifty Bits" Carbon SPA mirrors & mounts - Soft Bits for Sevens Half Hood - SLR Wheel Centres - Wheel centres and badges - Wind Deflectors - Replacement horns - Etc First item here and then just look at other items listed: Nifty Bits Mirrors & Mounts
  10. It is two months since I posted this and only had one reply and unfortunately my car is still not fixed. I have just e-mailed Caterham and DVA in the hope that one of them may be able to assist but thought that I would try again on the forum. The throttle bodies have a throttle quadrant that pivots in the centre of the throttle bodies where it hinges around, i.e. the grooved part that rotates. Having put the cable back in the groove and onto the pedal, the pedal now has about an inch and a half to to two inches of play before the throttle opens, i.e. you depress the accelerator pedal and there is no resistance for about 1.5-2 inches. Looking at the throttle body end, the throttle quadrant that the cable runs through seems to have to pivot 30-35 degress before it makes contact with the throttle body linkage to open the butterfiles. I thought that I had perhaps stretched the cable so fitted a new one but this has not resolved and I cannot see for the life of my how this is rectified. I have taken some photos and can e-mail these to anyone to have a look at (sorry I am not sure how to attach to this post) if you would drop me a PM which shows where the quadrant is sitting currently and where it appears to need to be, i.e. pressing against the throttle body linkage having pivoted round, so that when you depress the accelerator pedal the butterflies open up. Alternatively if anyone can e-mail me a photo of their VHPD throttle body linkage/pivot that I am referring to then I might be able to see something that I cannot see on mine at present. Many thanks Stuart Edited by - SLR69 on 3 Aug 2011 22:37:11
  11. Doing a standing start in my VHPD SLR with throttle bodies with c4,500 revs my throttle cable made a bang and the accelerator pedal became loose. My initial thought was that my throttle cable had broken. However, I found that the cable had come out of the accelerator pedal and also out of the part on the throttle bodies where it hinges around, i.e. grooved part that rotates. Having put the cable back in the groove and onto the pedal the cable is now loose rather than tight and I am at a total loss how to tighten it up. The throttle body seems to have two large springs which seem fine and you can rotate maunually on the right hand side of the throttle body. However the part of the throttle body that hinges that the cable runs through has a smaller spring in the middle of the throttle bodies, that does not appear taught - this part seems to have a tiny hole in it but I am not sure if a spring is supposed to go through this. I am wondering if something has broken but cannot see what or where. Has anyone had this scenario before where the cable hasn't broken but has become loose ? I have a new spare cable and have compared the lengths and they are the same length, so it is not as though the existing cable has stretched.

  14. Someone mentioned to me that they thought it illegal to wear a helmet when driving a car in France and I read in the paper at the weekend someone being prosecuted in France who was wearing a burkha because of the limited visibility. Does anyone know what the situation is or has anyone driven in France before wearing a helmet ? I go to Le Mans every year and have always had a windscreen but now I have an aeroscreen and am not sure I fancy driving the whole way just with goggles. Edited by - SLR69 on 26 Apr 2010 15:16:10
  15. I contacted Caterham earlier in the week for a sender who said they were out of stock and on back order and to try Caterham Midlands, who were also out of stock and Redline and I got the very last one from them. However, my problem might be my thermostat and not the sender so if it is once I have sorted it I will come back on this post as it would then be available. The senders are out of stock and on back order and are being specifically made by the manufacturer. Redline advised me that there are no other alternatives as these are specifically made to be compatible with the Caterham gauges and others will not work or won't work correctly.
  16. SLR with 1800 K series, symptoms as follows: Whilst driving the car runs at normal temperature @ 80 degs but shortly after stopping, e.g. in a line of traffic temperature has started rising quicker than normal (according to the gauge and fan), gets to 88 degs and then fans cuts in but remains on and doesn't go off again until you start driving, i.e. with the fan on it doesn't drop the temperature from 88 degs to 80 degs as it normally would. Previously you could sit in traffic for 5 or 10 minutes before the fan would cut in and it would then cut out fairly soon thereafter. Will this be the thermostat, sender or fan switch ?

    Banner battery

You can try reviving it withan Optimate (Acumate) or similar but if it is 7 years old it might have had it. Personally I would go for a dry cell battery - lighter and more powerful.
  18. Even if you fail at Goodwood and a CSR 260 did that I went with, you can hire a muffler for the day to reduce your DB level.

    VHPD/SLR - IACV

Does anyone have a photo of an AICV in situ on a VHPD/SLR so I can see exactly what I am looking for and where ? Can they be cleaned ? Where can I buy a new one from as Caterham do not stock them ? Many thanks Sturt

    Slicks...

Personally I swear by Avon slicks but they are not cheap ! I buy them from BMTR They make a huge difference, e.g. Castle Combe 5 seconds a lap
  21. I swear by the Puma Motorsport Trainer for driving the Caterham as they are ideal for the narrow pedals/pedal box, are a great fit and give a good feel and I have had several pairs over the years. I was bought some for my birthday recently but the present was duplicated, albeit one pair was the wrong size and I am selling this pair which are a EU42 - UK 7.5/8. For sale on eBay if of interest here: Puma Motorsport Trainers
  22. I am having a clear out and have the complete 2009, 2008 & 2007 Low Flying Magazines for sale on eBay if of interest, here: 2009 2008 2007 Edited by - SLR69 on 20 Feb 2010 18:03:19
