  1. So my tin top has just started a knocking noise from the front. It sounds like a wheel bearing type noise but only when I am free wheeling at around 1500-2000 revs. It stops with the slightest application of throttle or brake..... Which makes me question if it's possibly something else? My car is an A6 avant, 2.0 TFSI Regular 2 wheel drive not Quattro. Any ideas or experiences? Many thanks in advance 😶‍🌫️ I am starting to think it could be the drive shaft cv joint? it only knocks when the wheels are straight. Stops as soon as i turn the wheel, brake or accelerate.. it does stop when i take it out of gear.. anyone think the same? Edited by - tom butcher on 17 Jun 2014 11:32:43
  2. 1 tooth out! All better now tho.. As we discussed, Monsieur mechanic and I were glad it was glaringly obvious and nothing more sinister No probs Edited by - Tom Butcher on 12 Oct 2013 17:48:27
  3. Little update.... I promised Monsieur mechanic I would pop a little 'fixed it' note on here, as his attention was drawn to this thread.. All fixed by Monsieur mechanic after spending a few hours with him this morning.. I hope you haven't caught my cold... Sorry about the mess and see you next year! I will be back. Car is sounding and drives as it did so curry runs are back on.... 😬
  4. I shall be making a phone call! I was just asking if anyone had experienced this before as there are a lot more caterham hours of ownership out there than mine! Very often a quick question to someone who has had a similar experience can save a lot of time. Which is what I was posting for.
  5. Thanks guys, I guess I am asking wether the symptoms I am describing are a common result of the timing perhaps being a little but out... Will have a little run again over the next few days now it has stretched it's legs to make sure in my mind that its not the same.. 😶‍🌫️
  6. Evening all, I had my car serviced last week. Its done 22,500 miles, 7 yr old K-series R300. As well as a oil change etc, i had the foam replaced and the cambelt changed. I picked the car up in the pouring rain for a 15 minute run back home so was being carefull. However, i noticed straight away that the engine note seemed a tiny but different.. during the drive home i noticed the revs not picking up as keenly as before.. Now i put this down to a nice fresh sevice and perhaps things feeling a little tighter but i have just been on a long run down to the west country and it just doesn't seem to 'parp' or rev so quickly when i blip the throttle on downshifts and perhaps just a tiny bit laboured on take off... i certainly am not getting quite as much noise and pops as i had before.. I haven't spoken to garage yet as i wanted to get a feeling first from here as to whether the engine should feel a little 'tighter' after a cam belt change? The other thing is when i am going slowly in first and second, i appear to have suddenly developed the dreaded kangaroo foot.. something of which i only had in the first few hours of ownership nearly 8 years ago... This is something that is a definate change from before and feels to me like the engine is starting it and not my foot bouncing!! Any advice is much appreciated A rather concerned Tom ☹️
  7. Lunchtime today I saw a French plated racing green with yellow stripe and clamshell yesterday, were you with them? I think that was the plate... Edited by - Tom butcher on 10 Sep 2013 11:32:34

  11. Spotted you leaving the main waterfront car park, was hoping you we're going to come back up another lane looking for a parking spot but you pootled off! Lovely weather for it! Edited by - Tom butcher on 17 Jun 2013 22:04:24
  12. A friend is looking for a new toy and appears to have around 20k burning a hole in his pocket...... he seems set on a Duratec engine so anyone out there considering selling but not taken the plunge... here is your chance! 😬
  13. Parked up on the top of Chancturbury is it? on the downs behind Arundel, was blowing it out my *%%$ on my bike.... looked very smart...
  14. Parked in the yacht club car park yesterday morning, i must have missed the owner by a whisker as it appeared in the space of 5 mins! If you are out there, are you here racing?
  15. I have always done at least 1 normally 2 on tickover on the base settings for the engine. It should be on base out of the box, if not, it will describe in the manual how to get there... It will probably struggle a bit at this stage and need re starting possibly (depending on the quality of the engine..) this is fine! For the next 3 or 4, very slowly lean the engine out by very small amounts (1/8th turn normally recommended) during this time you can give it 1/2 throttle occasionally once the engine is hot! Enjoy the whiff of nitrous... 😬
  16. It will produce a lot of oily smoke too, so a nice warm garage may not be ideal, i think its going to be sunny on sunday.. though this time of year normally means cold so a hairdryer will be needed even in the sun... Get a couple of spare glow plugs too!
  17. Wooppeee! Got my first bid! 4 days out... my half term ploy is working........ none of you lot is it!! This ebay thing is addictive....
  18. Andy, Looks cool! lots of fun, have you finished running it in? I knew one of the guys in the shop i bought it from so he wacked it on their bench for me! Job done! Toby, Under the influence with one of those also has its drawbacks! Simon, Got a few watchers at the moment, timed it to finish on sunday afternoon, hopefully a good time time for the kids!! With the Lipo batteries i'm giving electric another go with one of these

  20. For those amongst the community looking for another well looked after 4 wheeled toy... Linky
  21. Have had a reply from Mark, Oily, He says there is a 10% increase across the range, improved throttle response and economy. I'm not too worried with economy, how i drive it seems to have the greatest effect on consumption anyway.. Is this your experience? i have just replied to him, he asked if mine was a standard VVC manifold and 52mm throttle body.
  22. Many thanks, i have e-mailed Mark, so wait to see what he thinks.
  23. Really liked this article as it made my hand twitch towards my wallet So, mine is a late 05 K R300 vvc, has anyone had a re-map in this engine? Now i'm out of warrenty... my 2 weeks are well up!!! 😬 I thought it might be an affordable little fiddle.. I do come across various scriptures that often say how the standard map from CC can be improved upon. Advice welcome please! Thanks in advance
  24. going to take it out for weekend as bit flat. Put it on a recondition cycle but thought i would bring it inside to warm it up..
