  1. All, I have a number of scratches on one of my rear wings due to an unfortunate incident with a box full of tools and a box that wasn't as good at being a box as i thought... anyway, to cut a long story short whats the best method of repairing rear wing scratches? it looks like its just the gel coat that has been scratched, as the scratches are quite smooth and are white. they just look unsightly on a relatively unscratched machine! cheers Steve
  2. Hi All, Just replacing the rear calipers on a Caterham SV roadsport due to a leaky caliper (from the handbrake machanism...old known fault??) with a new caliper from Caterham and i need to refit the old Caliper bracket to the new caliper and in section 16, point 82 of the assembly manual it says 'Insert the brake pads into the Brake caliper assembly. Check for the correct alignment of the brake pads. Refer fig. 34. Now tighten the Caliper bracket bolt to' and then its blank and i can't remember what i was told next .i.e. is it a specific torque you tighten the bolt to or just tighten!! As its the brakes and i had enough of a scare from the leaking fluid i want to get it right..so what should the rest of the manual say cheers lost and confused half way to nowhere
  3. I used the black heat shrink on the indicator repeater wires with no problems, as long as the heat shrink goes into the wing stay and as far into the engine bay as possible so none of the green wire is showing and is tie wrapped securely no problems with the IVA man Though I did my IVA in Aberdeen and it passed with a bit of tweeking first time though the guy was really helpful and fairly lenient, which seems to make a change from other places. Long way to go though if your not in Scotland cheers Steve
  4. Hi, There is no gasket between the engine and the bell housing its a metal to metal face enjoy building over the xmas break, fully justified way to escape the family and the sprouts
  5. Hey, thanks for the advice gents Managed to get the car through the SVA, it seem the hazard switch was part of a dodgy batch after talking to Caterham and they have had a few failures at SVA. Managed to disassemble the switch, stretch the spring a bit and then switch it on with a flick and it works...got me through the SVA anyway! 😬 New switch on route from Caterham anyway!
  6. Hi, Have been going over the car ready for my SVA tommorrow morning and have found that my flasher unit for the indicators and hazards has started to make weird noises when i switch on the hazard lights, the switch light comes on intermittently and the hazards don't work, however both the indicators work fine. Must be a faulty flasher unit i thought. So have changed it out with what i and the local car spare place think is an equivalent. Now the indicators still work fine, the switch light for the hazards works fine (though a bit fast) and you can hear the relay clicking, but the actual lights do not come on...what else is there to check, sure it can't be the fuse as the switch light and the relay works. Any help would be appreciated as 8:00am tommorrow morning is my SVA and this will be a fail i think! original unit WEHRLE 54 201 101 2/4x21W 12v replacement INTERMOTOR 21Wx4+(2x5W) 21Wx2+(5W)
  7. Hey guys, followed the advice and the immobiliser disarmed once i'd waved it over the right wire. Thanks very much, Checked the oil pressure, no probs, ran it for the first time tonight and all is well very very very happy 😬 😬 😬 thermostat kicked in and no real issues lovely noise
  8. Ok, I'm assuming the recieving wire is inside the ignition barrel and i will have to dismantle the ignition barrel to access it. Or can i just snip the cable ties and there will be enough slack in the wire to pull the wire forward at the back of the barrel Not looked in detail yet (damn work...) but want to get a clear picture of what i need to do cheers Steve
  9. Just nipped back up to the garage and connected the inertia switch up and pressed it, the switch was already engaged...tried to start the car but same symptoms and no start. Disconnected the inertia switch and tried again but still nothing. I don't seem to have a button on the imobiliser dongle, i think its a newer type that works off RFID as it just has to be near the ignition barrel according to the manual
  10. The instruction manual says not to connect up the inertia switch when first starting so you can just crank the engine and check for oil pressure.....so i haven't connected it, have i been a bit of an idiot? 😳
  11. Cheers Martin, Had a go and seems like the clutch is working and i also noticed that the clutch pipe has a lock ring on it which was only finger tight, so tightened that as well and don't seem to have a leak any more 😳 all seems good now, now to try and crank it for the first time
  12. All, Finally ready to crank the engine for the first time and stumped by the immobiliser . When I connected the battery up for the first time the immobiliser LED started to flash as if it was armed. Checked all the electrics and they all work fine (lights, horn, windscreen wipers etc), but immobiliser won't disarm and when i turn the key to position III the LED flashes rapidly for a while and then goes back to steady flashing. The immobiliser is a sterling excel type with a transponder on the key ring. According to the owners manual, when i put the transponder near the ignition barrel the immobiliser should disarm ready for ignition, when i attempt to start all i get is silence.... and a rapidly flashing LED for a while. It looks like its going straight into programming mode, but it seems like neither of my transponders are programmed and so will not disarm the immobiliser to allow the other to be programmed. Not sure what to do next!
  13. Hi all, First post so be kind Been filling up the clutch master cylinder with fluid on my new build pre startup and i'm getting a fluid leak out of the lower bellhousing bolt. The clutch is different to the one in the manual as its an autobleed, according to caterham (dosen't have the bleed nipple). The clutch seem to work and there is pressure when you depress the pedal but something is wrong. Is it an engine out to fix and any ideas how to fix?? lost and confused half way to nowhere
