  2. Who is Guy Monday and how do I contact him ??
  3. I am currently insuring my Caterham through Footman and James and they are asking for an official valuation. Does anyone know where I can get such a thing in the North Yorkshire region ?
  4. Does anyone have any advise about putting my 1.6K-series Supersport away for winter. It's not that I'm a wimp and can't stand the cold, but I'm on limited insurance and want to save my chasis for another year.
  5. Thanks again for all the suggestions. I've now got the diagnosis back from Andy/Derek at Classic Carriage: It appears to have been "a rubber seal on the inlet manifold allowing water to enter the number 4 cylinder." ! Is this a common thing ? PSW
  6. Does anyone have a cheap (very cheap), second hand fibre-glass race seat for sale, suitable for a '97 De-dion, K-series ? Preferably around Yorkshire/Humberside. Thanks
  7. Thanks for all your replies. Still haven't sorted the problem out yet. But thankfully, it is still under warranty and Derek Moore has very kindly said that he will sort it out for me. But I've got to trailer it down to them, hence the plea for any infomation on the hiring of suitable trailers. I'll keep you all posted of what they find !!! Thanks again Philip Stopher-Walker
  8. Sadly, I have already tried the Yellow Pages and there was only one company, who had something suitable, and that had been stolen and they weren't replacing it. We're now trying around Rotherham/Sheffield, which is another avenue as my parents live there. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.
  9. Does anyone know where I can hire a trailer, in the Filey/Scarborough area, suitable for a Caterham 7 (de-dion). So that I can take my sick Caterham down to Leicester this week.
  10. Can anyone, please, give me a little bit of advice. I am having a few problems with my '97, 1.6 K-series Supersport (with a high, 30,000 miles). Being new to Caterhams and a mechanical novice/idiot, I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. The problems began a few days ago when I started the car, there was a rattle/knocking noise from the engine. This soon disappeared as I set off. This noise is now intermittent when starting and this morning there was no sign of it. Secondly, when actually running the temperature gauge used to just hover around mid-point (except in traffic of course) but now even on the most gentle run, the needle hovers between 100 and 120 degrees. Thirdly, when I switch off the engine, it carries on running for up to 5 seconds. HELP ! What's wrong ? I have only had the car two and a half months and it has been nothing but trouble. Is this something serious ? It is still under warranty (well just 9 days left of it). But I have already had several minor problems with it and the 'AGENT' already thinks I'm a pain. Thus, he hasn't exactly 'bent over backwards' to try and help with the other matters (although his mechanic has been excellent). This, and the fact that the agent is 200 miles away, and you will see my reluctance to 'bother' him again - unless it is serious. Has anyone any idea what could be the matter ? Am I just being paranoid ? I thought when I bought a three year old car, built and owned by Caterham, from an official agent, with a warranty for just under £15,000 that I would have no problems with it - WRONG !
  11. Can any one tell me of a good (reasonably priced) place to buy a new Luke Harness ?
  12. I've just bought an "unwanted", new 4-point harness, for my '97 de-dion. I have managed (even with my lack of technical know-how) to fit this with no problem (apart from which of the two holes to fasten the outer strap - I guessed it was the one further from the centre - so the straps were roughly even ??). The problem is, I was also given an older 6-point harness, but I don't know how to fix it to the car ? I am going to use as a passesnger one - most of the time I'll be using the car on my own. The top half of the harness is no problem as, I think, it fits like a four-point. I was going to leave it as a four-point, but realised that the quick-release fastener/'buckle' was fixed to the lower 'crutch straps'. The two lower straps come from a single 'buckle' and each, of course, has a 'buckle' on the opposit end. I have taken my passenger seat out to try and help me fathom out where they go, but to no avail. I presume that they can't fit to the seat fixing, as the bolts aren't the same diameter and anything put under the flat-bottom of my adjustable-seat would focus the weight of the passesnger around the bolt and not the full length of the seat (?)Do I have to drill new holes along the strengthened section that the seat is attached to ? Finally, is it wise to use 'lock-tite', etc. to make sure that the bolts don't come undone ? Thanks in anticipation
  13. I am getting ready to purchase a caterham and was wondering about their braking properties. I recently had an interesting time with my current car (not a caterham), when someone pulled out on me whilst I was doing 60mph+ on a country road and then proceeded to turn right. I slammed on my brakes and locked up all my wheels, with great plumes of smoke behind me. Luckily after much swerving, I managed to stop the car, whilst the other driver just carried on, oblivious to the accident he nearly caused. Apart from me now getting round to improving my driving skills and practising braking properly - skid-pans, etc., can any one tell me whether anyone has ever put ABS on a caterham - I know it's against the whole ethos of the seven - but after this incident, I'm a little bit paranoid.
