  5. Thansk for all your interesting replies. Willie, thats exactly where my thoughts are heading. I will get a cage and not wear a helmet (on the road) but just ensure I have as much clearance as possible. This will be safer than no cage due to car hits deer/fence scenarios, and the odd roll. And I'm sure that will be safer than lots of tin tops out there.
  6. I'm thinking a cage is extra protection even if one doesnt roll. Recently I hit a deer and I was lucky it headbutted the front wheel and fell back dead. If it had decided to cross the road one second earlier I think I would of been severely squashed! Also I was following a 7 that had a bad "off" and the driver got cut up abit by the barbed wire fence (even though he had a windscreen). By the way his head did collide with his passenger. He didnt roll, just span around. I will not wear a helmet on the road for the same reason as DJ. So the question is, is using a cage without a helmet really that much of a no no. and how much clearance would be needed to make it ok? In my RAV4 I only have 40mm clearance between me and the frame(if I tilt my head) and as the RAV has normal reel belts, and not bucket seats, I will definitely contact it give the right type of crash. OK it is padded but a roll cage could be padded. So I cant really see that a cage in a 7 is any worse than the RAV, especially if I can maximise the clearance. ??
  7. I have read the low flying feb 2010 article on roll cages and all the posts here. And so I gather that its not advisable to use a roll cage while not wearing a helmet - apparently "damage to the head can easily occur in small accidents"? But, can anyone tell me how big a problem this really is? how much clearance (over and above the 50mm MSA requirement) is needed? Is it just a problem if you are tall? I am 5ft 9 short, I have tillet seats bolted directly to floor (no rail), and a CSR (so more clearance sideways). Of course being short isnt much of an advantage as I have to sit nearer the screen and so my head is nearer the top bar. I know an SLR cage might be ok but I want to use my weather equipment so I'm thinking of a roadsport style cage(but bespoke for the csr). Any advice would be appreciated.
  8. One of these here One small scratch, otherwise perfect. £60 inc p&p
  9. I had a similar problem and it was caused by a broken return spring on one of the throttle bodies. This meant throttles 1 and 2 were not in sync with 3 and 4.
  10. Set of 4 Caterham Cars 10 spoke 15" Anthracite wheels(without tyres). Good condition. Fronts are 6.5", rears are 9". From my CSR so fronts have CSR offset. Brand new cost £600. My price £299 plus P&P (probably £50?) will add photos later. (Caterham part nos 58299 and 58344) Edited by - richard smith on 2 Jun 2012 09:51:41
  11. Bit of a minefield this one, as the calipers on VWs changed alot over the years and even if you have the correct part number you still also need to specify the correct year. The part number needed is 1J0615423 and they are for a mark 4 Golf up to year2000. Dont order 8E0615423 as although the number is very similar, and its for a Passat, its not the caliper you need! I got mine from PW autoparts on ebay – Pete, Frank, and Mike are all very helpful and patient! 01384 565300. NB you have to order the opposite side to what you want as they are installed opposite way round on Caterhams v VW golf. NB at least that's what is needed for my 2008 CSR260. Dont know if the part used by CC on CSRs varied at all over the years.
  12. Ah I see! Everything is clear now. Thanks. (I should of read things properly in the first place).
  13. I didn't know that the handbook is wrong. What are the correct pressures then? Can someone post them here please?
