Hi Matt, I have only ever managed to refit my Elan engine with the gearbox in place, i doubt it will fit as one, If it has a Lotus chassis you will struggle to fit the prop shaft to the gearbox too. If you are lucky it will have a hole in the body on the drivers side tunnel that maches with a hole in the chassis, you should then be able to put your hand through and fit the prop. it might be possible to fit the prop with the box in place and no engine. Mine had a spyder space frame that made it easy but not now that its back to a lotus chassis. Rae New Caterham Book Here

Myles That reminds me of my hillclimb Mini. My drive slopes downhill, I was working on the Mini, lent through the window and pressed the starter, the car started instantly but unfortunately was in gear. No problem the garage wall stopped it, I was delighted as about 1 millisecond before it looked like the 7 was going to stop it... 5 years of competition motoring and the only 2 incidents were on my drive, that, and SWMBO but i'm not allowed to talk about that one.... Chris, I had a copy from the marina manual but lost it, last time i built the diff i used my Lotus Elan manual ??? It uses the same procedure and shows how to blue the teeth for correct meshing and how to correct by moving shims.I can scan it in and e mail it to you if you are happy with this but think you are probably best off with the correct procedure. have you tried the public library they keep manuals. sorry for not being more help, let me know if i can be of more useful assistance. On my Standard 10 axle which is basically the same as an Ital, I use the same LSD between 3 different ratios. It does need setting up but is more time consuming than difficult and is detailed in the Marina manual. It works something like... put it together then check, move shims around reassmble and check, move shims again and check. etc. etc until it is correct. Blue the teeth, check for meshing correctly, pull apart move shims etc. 😬 Rae New Caterham Book Here
