    LSD

Toby, I had a standard diff on my R300 (160HP) for about 12 months and then upgraded to an LSD. The difference was very noticeable, the car is much more grippy when powering out of slow 2nd gear corners & roundabouts, and it slides more quickly once it loses grip. Because it increases the grip at the rear the car will understeer more, so you might need to change the setup to compensate. Mine isn't any more noisy than the standard diff, which already whined a bit. I'd definitely recommend the upgrade.
  2. IanJ - I just use a piece of wood which slots tightly in-between the back of the toe-hitch and the front of the A-frame (about 6" long) with a strap wrapped around it and the gater to stop it jumping out of place. There are probably more elegant solutions but it's nice and simple for reversing up a slope.
  3. My minno trailer locks the brakes when reversing up a hill. One simple solution is to make a temporary collar to block the movement in the tow-hitch (which activates the brakes).
  4. Hi all, just looking for some advice on potential upgrades. My car is a standard R300 with RBTB's. I'd like to make it a bit quieter and smoother for general road use if possible. Possible options I'm considering: - Repack existing exhaust - Quiet exhaust (is there one that fits the existing Cat for MoTs?) - Engine re-map to improve timing, etc - Airbox to reduce induction noise => Any recommendations?
  5. My R300 is 5 years old and has done about 10,000 miles including a few track days, is it due a timing belt change? Thanks.
  6. Just a quick update - the battery just needed a decent charge. I left the charger/conditioner connected all week and tried it when I got home today - it started first time. Nice simple solution! Now I just need some decent weather this w/e for a blat...
  7. It's got roller barrels so I'm told it doesn't have a IACV. Good idea re the jump leads though, I'll try starting it hooked up to the tin-top at the weekend. That should confirm if it's the battery.
  8. Recently when cold starting my R300 requires multiple attempts to "catch" where as it used to fire 1st/2nd time. I thought the battery might be low because it doesn't turn over very quickly and seems to get slower with each attempt, but it starts first time when hot. I've tried charging the battery with a charger. Any suggestions?
  9. Great, thanks - I'll take a look. Glad it's nothing serious.
  10. Nah, I've got separate shift lights above the dash... this must be sommat else? I don't remember seeing it on before, and it stays on when the engine is running.
  11. Can anyone tell me what the yellow warning light at the top/centre of the tacho on an R300 means? Mine is lighting up when I switch on the ignition. Thx.
  12. Did you fit a bullet cam for the afternoon on your trackday? I spent ages worrying about a mystery whining sound on mine and it turned out to be wind noise from the camera mounting! 😳
  13. I use a battery conditioner on my caterham during the winter but I plug it in to the power socket via a timer switch so it's only on for an hour a day to avoid it causing any problems long term. I didn't know you could connect them via the cigarette lighter - mine only has the usual croc-clip connectors.... where can you get the ciggi-lighter adapter from....?
  14. I used a similar solution to Tony except I used strips from a baked beans can because the metal was a bit thicker and the colour matched the exhaust nicely. I cut it into strips and bent the last 5mm at each end backwards in a loop towards the silencer to prevent them falling into the exhaust (because it expands when hot and loosens them slightly). I was surprised how many I could fit into the gaps before they sealed but it's done the trick nicely, except the bit in the middle of the collector that I can't get at. I didn't use sealant because I want to be able to dismantle the exhaust easily.
