  1. Hi Bob, Thanks for your reply. It was really useful. Thinking through the arguments a bit more, I think you have come to the correct conclusion. In fact, I have ordered the Uniroyals from Black Circles today. This gets me over an immediate problem.....my AO21Rs were shot (6 years old) and had the grip of blocks of wood. I have a track day coming up May 1st, and, although not that 'racy' the Uniroyals should be ok for that. More importantly, We are also off for the IOW Blat soon, so they will be ideal for this. I too think the R888s look good and are popular. The tricky thing for me will be the selection of wheels to go with them. I have a live axle so the studs need to be Ital/Triumph pattern - I don't know how easy these will be to find. Anyway, thanks very much for your reply, I found it really useful and have followed your strategy. regards, Nick
  2. Yes, I do use the car in the wet, but I would be interested what the choices were anyway. Nick
  3. Hi Guys, I have read through the 84 posts on this topic, I found the discussions interesting but with what do I replace my worn-out 185/70 x13" AO21Rs, used for occasional track days and road? The problem appears to be the fact that there are no comparable tyres available in 70 profile. Changing to 14" rims to use 185/60 ZZS tyres seems to be overkill! (and expensive) Thanks for any suggestions.
  4. Ok, will do. I think the tomtom USB adaptor has a built in 1.5A fuse in it anyway. Cheers, Nick
  5. Job done. I made a bracket, fixed to one of the wiper motor mounting bolts, along with the earth connection, fed the supply via a 10A (overdone?) inline fuse from the battery connection on the solenoid and bob's your uncle. Thanks you guys, for giving me the support to do the job. Cheers, Nick
  6. Yep, understood John. Thanks for the help. Cheers, Nick
  7. Ok, thanks very much to Jonathan and John, I'll give it a go tomorrow and let you know how I get on. Nick
  8. Hi John, I'm not mad about having it ignition controlled - if it is safe not to do so and is easier to do, then I'm happy.
  9. The Lucas wiper module has 2 five-way plugs (in and out?, all used) and the normal wiper switch has a four way plug plus two separate single spades on the sides. As I don't know which wire comes from the fuse box, in which wire would I be interested? All wires going into the plugs mentioned have about 30-40 mm available for fixing Scotchloks if that is what you mean by "get to". They are not available for putting additional spade connectors.
  10. Unfortunately, not easy to get to; the covered loom is right up against the fuse/relay box, so I would need to remove the fuse box from the bulkhead. This is not easy either - the isecuring set screws go in from behind the heater! Could be done, but is there an alternative? Thanks for the tips and yes, I have a multimeter.
  11. Yes, I found the archive dealt with the more complex situations, but didn't deal with the basics. I have the wiring diagram from the build manual, but although it shows a spare fuse position, I strongly suspect that Caterham used this for the intermittent wash wipe module in my car. How would I use such an accessory fuse? This approach sounds good to me. Nick
  12. I guess it should be....I don't need to trickle charge battery. Yes, I have isolation switch. Thanks for any help Nick
  13. I have a old (1992) Kent engined 7 and would like to install a cigar lighter socket to power a Tomtom satnav. I have purchased the socket from Halfords, along with cable etc. and would like to know how best to connect it. Is there a spare switched output on the ignition switch? Would it need an inline fuse? 5A? Simple instructions, I.e. Those aimed at an intelligent 10 year old, would be appreciated! Nick
  14. Hi. My 1992-build 1600GTS (Kent) won' start! I have had intermittent problems recently, but now its packed up completely. I have no spark at plugs or coil, I have 12V on the +ve AND the -ve connections on coil to earth, so have suspected the electronic ignition components. (I have replaced the coil already but it wasn't that!) I have the original Lucas system (amplifier with heatsink mounted on bulkhead) and after contacting Caterham for replacement, I was informed 'we haven't used that system for a long time now - you need an IGNITOR kit'. The problem is, I think the kit, LU-143C, is designed to convert a points-type system to electronic-type. My existing sealed resin bit that fits inside the UL distributor has 3 leads -R, G and B leading to a connector to the loom, whereas the new ignitor one has only 2 leads - W and B/W. Help! What do I do? Has anyone had experience of replacing the old Lucas system on crossflows?
