Hi Ian,
Well I've done approx 60 track days and approx 25k road miles. It's the track days where the most engine wear / stress will have occurred.

After 8 years of trackdays and quite a few road miles I think my R500D is due a bit of preventative maintenance TLC. The engine still has good oil pressure and no rattles or knocks but I’m stripping it down to have a good check over.
There doesn’t appear to be any wear on the cylinder bores but what’s the view of replacing the piston rings? The engine is fitted with Omega slipper pistons so if I use a piston ring to check for cylinder bore wear what ring gap should I expect?
In a similar vein is it worth fitting new big end bearing shells, as I said the oil pressure is fine but I guess there must be some wear?

Hi Hampster,
You need to make the hotel bookings by phone (the numbers are on the Chitchat post) and quote the booking reference. I have just checked with Radison Blu and they have approx 80 rooms left. Unfortunately my contact at Jury's Inn is on ,hols but I can see you can still book rooms outside of the clubs allocation via their website.
If you still have problems please let me know.

Hi Jonathan,
I know the Ford part number is 988F989BB as this is marked on the TPS I have fitted by CC. I found the alternative part numbers from this //www.smpe.co.uk/ and other online catalogues.

Hi Malcolm,
Just been looking at this myself, third party versions are available on Ebay etc. Here are the part numbers to look for.
Ford part No. 988F989BB or 1071403
Fuel Parts part No. TP073
Intermotor part No. 19976
Motaquip part No. VTP101
Be careful of the very cheap one on Ebay they look like they are using old Ford tooling and are very poor quality (I know I bought one!)

Hi Saundersian,
As ws21sby asks are theses still available? I'm only looking for one seat so if it works with ws21sby we could split them and take one each.

Hi F355GTS
Look like John is going to take them, you have 2nd dibs if he doesn't.

Don’t struggle with those heavy steel ramps on your trailer, I have the solution, a pair of light weight Aluminium Ramps to fit Minno, Clubman or TT Series trailers. The ramps are 1.85m long and in very good condition, I bought them new from Brian James 4 years ago for use on my Minno; they are so much easier to handle than the standard steel ramps.
Yours for £150, buyer to collect from Moreton in Marsh.

Totally agree, what a fantastic day, well organized with great camaraderie amongst all the Club drivers. I've done lots of track days with various organizers and the Club events are always the best. So come on guys, those who haven't done a Club track day you don't know what your missing. If three guys from the Isle of Man can make the journey to you can too. A Club day is the best way to get started, remember that's what your car was designed for.
Thanks again Merrick.

Hi Ammo
As others have said, the “quiet “ R500 airbox does take a perceptible edge off the performance; can’t put numbers on it but you can certainly feel it from the driver’s seat.
You re-built my engine last Aug as a Raceco 250 after it had ingested a bit of fractured air trumpet. Since getting it back I’ve run it with the “quiet” airbox, without an airbox just the pipercross filter, and with the C400 airbox. From comparative noise tests the “quiet” airbox is no quieter than the C400 airbox, and I’ve had the Raceco 250 engine with Caterham roller barrels, std de-catted Caterham primarys and Raceco exhaust mapped by Steve Greenald at 269 bhp, well pleased
I’ll send you the dyno plot.

Oulton 2011

I’m planning to do an Oulton TD this year and it would be great to do it as a Club day hope it comes off.

Hi Catkins,
Whoops, if the engine was running when the hose came off you may well have lost most of the coolant as the engine water pump would have pumped it out.
The Alcester 7’s site is good for basic info, the water rail is shown here the radiator bled valve is the nut mounted on the top (header tank) of the radiator, and the expansion tank is indeed the semi transparent plastic tank where you normally top up the coolant.
Good luck with the MOT.

Hi Carl,
No I’ve not a problem with noise. I’d like to maximise ambient air induction to maximise power, using the foam filter I have, but protect it from the worst of the elements using the air filter cover. I’m booking a RR session and will get a filter cover if it doesn’t reduce power / air induction.

Hi Jason,
I’d be interested to hear the results of you RR session, when are you having it done 🤔
I’m planning on going the same route myself and won’t buy the filter cover if it’s too restrictive; please e-mail direct eMail

Hi Jason,
Thanks for the prompt reply
I think I’ll invest in some longer DZUS fasteners to fix onto the ¼ turn fixings; I already have the carbon back box. I guess there is plenty of clearance between the C400 air filter cover and the internal foam filter so there is no risk of air restriction 🤔

Hi Guys,
Does anyone have any experience of using / fitting the C400 Air Filter Cover - Race CC part# here on a Duratec roller barrel set up 🤔
Do you know if it fits onto the standard CSR carbon back plate CC part# here and will it fit over the standard Piper Cross foam filter 🤔
I’d appreciate anything I’d need to look out for in fitting this.

Hi Mankee,
I have a brand new MFRU still in it’s MG Rover box. Mines marked YWB100970, but the connections look the same. It’s yours for £45 plus p.p. Let me know if you’re interested and I can send some pics.

Hi Carl
Thanks for the link to Ultimate, very useful I’m sure I’ll be getting in touch with them once I’m back home and get the engine stripped to survey the damage. Will let you all know what I find.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the input, I’ve found a link to Avonride here which suggests it’s the brake shoes themselves which go into auto reverse by sliding away from the drum Hope this helps Roger. I’ll take a look at mine when I get home.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the replies, I’ll ask CC who supply the parts, but I doubt if CC stock them as spares.
Duncan, the cars done 9 track days and a few k road miles so it’s surprising it’s gone. The wisdom is that the Duratec is pretty tough and don’t need frequent re-builds unlike the K series.
Dave J, thanks you could well be right. I’ll post a note on what I find when I get back home and get it stripped in a couple of weeks.
Cheers

Hi S7MAD
Thanks for the reply I’m not sure if mine has the auto reverse feature, it’s an Avonride with AV20 coupling and AV20Z drawbar. I’m pretty sure the brakes are adjusted correctly. I’d appreciate it if you could e-mail a copy of the service manual you have. eMail
