    Idle problems

Had a similar problem a while back, if you have a choke this might help. It was caused by the choke cable sheathing being snagged slightly which pulled the choke on a tiny bit, resulting in really bad idling and lots of left foot braking... All fixed by unsnagging the sheath. Not really sure why the choke there on mine, never need to use it.
  7. One of the choke tubes had come loose and was rotating, which was preventing any mixture (or right mix I s'pose) going into that cylinder. Found in in 2 seconds after reading Phil Waters post on 'could it be the dizzy?' Couldn't work out where to tighten it but the John at Redline corrected it and showed me where to fix it next time Have tested the electrics to the temp gauge and they all appear fine, think the gauge is broken. Anyone know how to test the gauge? Otherwise I'll just have to buy another and see if it works. thanks Mike
  8. All sold out, Chaters, Redline etc etc Thanks for the offers of photocopies of various pages but I really need the whole book, as I know nothing! Feel a bit like J R R Hartley less the tweed suit...
  9. On my way home tonight the temp gauge on the dash stopped working. Wondering whether I have a loose connection somewhere causing both problems? I did have an immobiliser fitted last week and maybe the fitter disturbed some of the connections? loose earth or something? Make sense to anybody? Anywhere I should look? John, thanks for the tip on the dizzy, I'll work up the courage to have a look at the weekend. - Mike
  10. This may be completely irrelevant but on my 93 X/F I had to have an immobiliser fitted, for the insurance, and during fitting they had snagged the choke cable so that it was slightly on, causing me the stall at lights and stuff. The choke was not on enough for the light on the dash to be lit up tho. BTW I'm not much of a techie wiz and a complete newbie... Regards
  11. Encountered a small problem this morning, my 1700 X/F hesitates in any gear at or thereabouts 4000 rpm. It also makes a 'fluttering' noise (like something flapping in the wind) at the same time. Suspect its mifiring or something to do with the fuel pump? The sound comes from the left side of the car. Once past 4000 its fine. Last four fill ups have been LRP, also have some lead additive when using unleaded. Last one was last night when it was down to 1/4 tank. Not that technical and only been a 7 owner for 3 weeks so all advice gratefully appreciated.
  12. Thanks guys, I have a single wire leading to the centre, and think I'll sit it on the dash. Was'nt sure if this was legit for the MOT? But I guess your cars must have passed? - Mike
  13. guess nobody reads the suggestions forum on a regular basis...
  14. In desperate need of a cook book approach to looking after my seven, having discovered the vast amount of stuff I just don't know about it, in terms of what goes where connecting to what, doing god knows. Apparently this books the dogs, anyone know a shoppe with it in stock, as it seems to be out of print. Alternatively any one with a spare copy they'd like to sell? Book details are Lotus Seven Restoration/Preparation/Maintenance by Tony Weale ISBN 1-85532-153-X thanks
