  1. Ah, so that was you tooting, Peter!

OK, I've been rumbled. I'll come clean.

Having clayed my car, today I touched up my myriad paint chips using my new Chipex paint kit, then - I admit it - I put on two (yes, that's 2!) coats of polish. 😳

I spent the afternoon listening fearfully for the Ghost Riders etc blat in case a certain SM25T led a load of LHS exhaust Caterhams up my hill and peppered my good work with grit and leaves. *eek*

Car looking great though. In fact, it's looking so good that if it's raining next weekend I might just take my TT to the I of W instead of my Seven.... 😬

But, no, SM25T unlike some I could mention I did stop short at polishing my exhaust!

  2. Removed from my car immediately following the IVA and so to all intents unused and in "as new" condition. Prefer to sell as an assembly.

Motolita 11" Steering Wheel (Caterham Parts No 77217)

Motolita Steering Wheel Boss (77218) fitted with silver "7" logo centre

    Steering Column Upper (75027B)

Steering Column Bush (B8466) (2off, but one has missing internal plastic sleeve)

    This lot is about £220 from C Parts. Howsabout £125 + p&p?

    BM me if interested.

  3. My experience is similar to that of Coolbop's. The clonks - more like bangs - from my original LSD were real head-turners. My replacement carbon plated diff is very much quieter; knocks when changing gear and when going on or off the throttle. I understand that this is as good as it is gets.

Whilst the noise is now reduced to nuisance level rather than being a problem, I have to say that had I known when speccing my car that an LSD was going to commit me to listening to this knocking for the next x years, then I almost certainly would have gone for an open diff instead.

  4. Several mentions in this thread and elsewhere of fitting a resistor to the feed for these lights.

I'm about to replace my high level brake light which has blown a few of its LED's. My understanding is that fitting a series resistor will "tone down" the power supply a bit and give some protection to the vulnerable LED's. Is this correct please? If so, what size resistor should I be fitting?

I know nothing about electronics so please speak to me as to a child! *confused*

  5. CC told me it was an IVA requirement. I understand it's to stop petrol leaking out if your vehicle is upside down - but it won't of course, because it doesn't seal.

I picked up my car 3 weeks ago. A few days later I tried, and failed, to refuel the vehicle at my local BP, Shell and Sainsbury garages.

I've read umpteen posts on this subject and I tried every suggested angle including more of my own but, in desperation and after scratching my black-pack aero filler with my unsuccessful gyrations, I resorted to buying a fuel can and using the fill spout to jam the flap open.

I took the car back to CC and they removed the flap.

It is frankly ridiculous that CC have failed to resolve this long-running issue and even more ridiculous that they sell you a car they know you will have trouble refueling.

  6. My Sprint tunnel bag arrived with rivets etc which I spoke to Soft Bits about fitting, since I imagined very marginally improved security and less flapping in the breeze.

SB told me that few people use the rivet fasteners because they prefer to avoid drilling non-essential holes in their cars. This makes sense so I've decided to not use the fasteners if possible. SB mentioned they were a legal requirement in some countries (Germany?) and that's why they provided them.

After some 1k miles, I have to say I'm planning to leave things as they are. I haven't noticed the side pockets flap at speed.

By the way, my car has the leather tunnel top and carpet, like yours.

  7. Mine is the lsd mentioned by Martin, on a Roadsport 150 with 500 miles on the clock.

Not much backlash showing, but very noisy irregular clattering when pulling away and turning. Improves when hot but still there.

Slight whine on over-run sometimes audible, but nothing to get excited about.

I was told that the solution for road cars is to replace the sintered metal plates with carbon plates. 8 weeks delivery for my replacement. ☹️

I understand that this problem rather took Caterham by surprise on road car lsd's, and the impression given is that mine is a particularly "bad" one.
