  2. Kevsta This was discussed and agreed with Tony at Pace, because I wondered what to do with two vents from the top. It makes sense to me, bear in mind the oil level in the tank is just below the baffle which is only about half full. There is very little chance of any oil overflow going into the catch tank or cam cover. Agree that oil mist will go somewhere, but I don't see it being a problem if it goes into the cam cover. I think it is important not to run the engine sealed since I think i had read elswhere that presurising the engine can blow crankshaft seals. I also recognise this topic can be a little controversial. Malcolm

  4. Angus Don't know what DS system you have but my Pace DS tank has two vent connections on top. My system works with the K series - engine breather connected to the top of the DS tank. The second DS vent is piped to a catch tank which presumably catches any oil overflow from the DS tank. This catch tank is then vented beneath the car, to avoid pressurising the system. In my case this Catch tank is approx 0.5 lt and so far no significant flow of oil has got to this tank. But I have only run the system for 200miles miles. Malcolm

  6. my next upgrade is planned to be replacement for the standard K series exhaust. Most likley solution being Powerspeed 4-2-1 , with a CAT,which looks like I should be able to get <£1000 hopefully. This is hoed to give small improvement in performance and be a little quieter than current system. Two questions 1) Is this generally correct? 2) I hope that passengers that the likelyhood of passengers burninfg their legs is not increased signifcantly what have other found that made this change?   8. Just a thought Would you expect the oil pressure relieve valve to be operating when the engine is up to full operating temp? If this is happening I would think something is wrong. Malcolm

Mike I am going through this as well, but my tank has an Ally plate welded to its base to allow attachment to the lower chassis rails- which was supplied by Pace This tank is a recent purchase, so perhaps Pace have modified the design since yours. If it helps I can get you a photo of this arrangment. For top support. I have a Do it Yourself Jubilee kit from a hardware store which will grab hold of the top of the tank, but have yet to resolve the bracketry required to attach this to the upper chassis rail / top of footwell.   12. As a result of starting to install a Pace DS, I have stumbled upon the possibility that there are a variety of standard intake plenums. My Engine is a 1800 K 140 BHP, with a single throttle, and no mods fitted in an SV built in 2004. my plenum is Ally casting. The DS install has already raised two points. 1)The Pace Engine mounting bracket will need to be modified to lower the engine so that I can get the engine cover on. 2) As standard this plenum is provided with a support strut which connects the underside of the plenum to the engine block. This attachment at the engine block becomes in accessible when the DS pump is fitted. Two questions 1) Are there alternative plenums that result in a lower engine height- I think I have seen a plastic plenum.- do they offer any other advantages -such as reduced weight, increased performance, possibly even no further need for the engine strut. 2) How important is this strut if I retain the standard Cast Ally plenum.   13. Electrolytic, Galvanic, Dissimilar metal Corrosion - all names that describe the same process. I think all that is required is Dissimilar metals, moisture, access to oxygen Extract from a Boeing web site http://www.boeing.com/commercial/aeromagazine/aero_07/corrosn.html#table01 "...For example, graphite fibers, which are used to reinforce some plastic structure, present a particularly challenging galvanic corrosion combination. The fibers are good electrical conductors and they produce a large galvanic potential with the aluminum alloys used in airplane structure. The only practical, effective method of preventing corrosion is to keep moisture from simultaneously contacting aluminum structure and carbon fibers by finishing, sealing, using durable isolating materials such as fiberglass, and providing drainage. " I would think that corrosion has been enhanced in the location of the Bubbles mentioned above, because the mud that gets trapped between the footwell and side skin will retain moisture Yes I agree - It should not be beyond the wit of man to address this at the design stage Malcolm
  14. If you add carbon Side skins and make no other changes you will get CRP in contact with Steel tubes attached using rivets which can be Aluminium, or Steel/Stainless Steel or possibly Monel. You will also have the CRP in contact with surrounding Aluminium sheet at the rear and floor. Some of these are not good with regard to electrolytic/Galvanic corrosion, but this is not only dependant on the materials in contact but also affected by the relative areas of materials in contact and the environment this all sits in. Finishes on the materials (eg Paint/powder coat) do not necessarily provide an effective barrier either. I am sure there are others more experienced in these matters that would be able to provide a more comprehensive response. Safe to say replacing with Carbon Reinforced Plastic alone will not automatically solve a corrosion problem. Malcolm
