  1. Hi all, After speaking with Sevens and Classics I think I am going to do a comission sale with them, but before I do I wanted to offer it to fellow club members. I am not going to advertise it on Pistonheads as I think Callum at S&C is pretty fair and I want to give him the ability to market the car properly. I do however think there is a cracking car to be had by a fellow club member (or friend) at a good price. it is 2003 Caterham SuperSport R. 1.8 K series with roller barell throttle boddies, R300 ECU, LSD 6 speed manual. Approx 164BHP Blue with silver bonet stripe and nose cone. Carbon fibre cycle wings, carbon fibre rocker cover, carbon fibre rear arch protection. Double diagnol FIA roll over bar. This car has wanted for nothing while under my ownership, which has been 3 years. The car has approx 164BHP which makes it very quick and capable. Its turns in better than any car I have ever driven. It has widetrack suspension, leather touring seats, 13" wheels, R500 repackable exhaust. Fixed windscreen, full weather gear, SBFS half hood, recent new starter motor, recent new alternator. Appolo swirl pot, with oil temperature sensor. Removable MoMo steering wheel. Big brake upgrade, including uprated master cylinder. Current noise at 4,500RPM is ~93DB due to recent exhaust re-pack. The car has recently undergone a complete overhall by Arden motorsport with no expense spared, the suspension set up has been done the diff has been aligned as have everything else on the car. It has had a timing belt, water pump and tensioner replaced in the last 3 months (less than 500 miles) by Arden motorsport. Full report to show work carried out and suspension set up - The engineer who set it up said it is an excellent example of this car. Rcent new rear tyres Yoko A048R's 13". Spare clutch cable, spare throttle cable, spare set of mini light alloys with scrubbed tyres - good for track days. The car has done 33,000 miles and has some stone chips to the rear arches as a result, nothing not in keeping with this type of car. This is a high spec'd car which has been very well looked after, the only reasson I am selling is baby number 2 is imininent and it wont get used for about a year. I need something I can put a child seat in the front seat and take the eldest child out with me. I'm looking for as close to £16,500 as possible. https://www.flickr.com/gp/128306195@N08/2t1rcW https://www.flickr.com/gp/128306195@N08/3rb5s0
  2. Thanks all - Excellent help as always. 😬 *thumbup* *thumbup* *thumbup*
  3. Hi all, I think this might have been done to death in the past but i either couldn't find anything or the things i did find with links to pictures the links had expired so apologies in advanced. Please can someone advise if the picture shows a manual or automatic tensioner on my (i think none VVC K series 1.8). Thank You
  4. Hi all, Sorry to revisit an old thread... I have quick question, someone mentioned using a length of plastic tube to wrap the packing around and then sliding this over the exhaust centre pipe and bingo packing done! They mentioned using cling film to keep it in place...... I can't see that it would be possible to remove the cling film but I guess it would just shrink up and evaporate so no harm to leaving it on but wanted to check this assumption. Sounds like an easy job to do so long as the bolts come away ok. Thanks
  5. Brilliant - Thank you very very much. Where do you find those values? Do you have some book squirreled away somewhere? Thanks again much appreciated.
  6. Hi All, Its been a while since i have posed on here... I'm struggling to get much use out of the car let alone do any work to the car with a 5 month old baby. Anyways personal circumstances aside, in my rush to move my little project one step further forward while my little one was sleeping I undid the wrong bolts! I undid the wrong two bolts and now can't find any torque settings for them. If anyone knows the torque settings i would be most grateful - The bolts indicated in red in the picture below: http://s997.photobucket.com/user/iestynd/media/Caterham/PropWrongbolts.png.html Thank You Edited by - Iestyn on 21 Sep 2013 19:38:53
  7. Hi, I am interested in the shower cap, tunnel bag, wind deflector and e bag if you can let me know prices. I also appreciate you might not want to sell until you have sold the car. Good luck with the sale it looks a nice car. Thanks
  8. Right so the starter motor woes have been put to bed. Thanks to everyone for there responses. The issue was the re-furbed starter motor was reassembled the wrong way round (thats all the guy at the place said).. he went on to say he couldn't refurb it any other way as the parts were not available to do so! e gave me my money back and i promptly went to Tim at Brize and purchase a new one from them. Fitted it, insultated it and the cables and she fired into life with no issues. Thanks again very greatful to you all.
  9. Thanks for all the responses... I have tried with a liveconnection straight onto the starter motor.. exactly the same result (starter makes the engaging noise but it just spins). I am going to send the starter back to Teesside start parts and ask them to revers the one way bearing. I will let you know once i know. thanks all.
  10. Hi all, First of all massive thanks to everyone for the technical explinations in this tech talk section it has been invaluable. 😬 I have tried a search and can't find anything that would help with this one... so here goes. I have a k series super sport r (1800). The starter motor failed on it due to cables degrading.. new cables and all was well with the world. However at MOT time durring the static high revving smoke test the new cables melted fuseing together the live and the ignition live.... Starter motor engaged for about 3 minutes while the engine was running!!! We tried to patch the cables up and try to start it... nothing not a thing. A bump start and a ride home meant i was able to strip it all down again (exhaust primaries off etc.) starter motor on the bench with a bettery connected gave nothing not a thing. Starter motor was promptly sent away for a re-furb. Starter motor back looking like new, bench test... WOW, it works it pops out and actually turns like mad! Fitted to the car... i can hear it popping in and out when i connect a fly lead to the positive... however its not turning the car over... at all! It just makes the EXACT same noise it makes on the bench in a vice. I think the fly wheel is ok but not sure what else it could be? could it be spinning the wrong way?? This is a picture of the fly wheel with the starter removed -it looks ok to my highly untrained eye. http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/af94/iestynd/Caterham/2013-07-04142550.jpg Anyone have any suggestions as to what i can try? I have put teh space in exactly as it was before (it will only go one way)........ I might need a new starter motor but before i spend £250 +vat on one i thought i would ask. Thank You
  11. Hi all, I used a throat mic from ebay with some Mitex radios for a blast up to Scotland (Dumbfries) there was 2 Caterhams and 3 other super cars (Aston Martin etc), well we in the Caterhams had throat mics and in the ear ear peices. We both wore a "snood" type thing to give the mic a bit better protection but it was really clear and teh guys in the tin tops were very jealus of the fact we had push to talk on our left hands so full hands free radio use. Excellent highly recomend throat mics
  12. With the aim of being complete and knowing how i use blatchat (search first ask later) i wanted to post a summary. So as suggested by the experts on here, I stripped the leather and plastic back up the seat and took it to a welding firm, Sepcialist welding in Abingdon. As can be seen from the next picture we inserted some steel rod which was a lovely snug fit and should give it some re-enforcement. http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/af94/iestynd/Caterham/IMG-20130605-00137.jpg Frank the welder cleaned up all the points of contact so the weld would take and set about the welding... 5 minutes later it was done. http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/af94/iestynd/Caterham/P1040497.jpg http://i997.photobucket.com/albums/af94/iestynd/Caterham/P1040496.jpg So we parted company me grinning like a chesire cat and only £20 lighter. Very happy just need to get it fitted back in the car now, after I give it a thorough leather clean and feed. Result Edited by - Iestyn on 6 Jun 2013 09:16:50
  13. Quoting garybee: Looks like it should be easy enough to weld. Shame I'm nowhere near as I'd happily do it for you. I'd insert a slightly smaller steel tube inside to reinforce the join and weld it if I were to do it. Excellent idea putting a small tube inside the existing tube - Thanks for the response. I just need to find a suitable welding shop in the oxfordshire area. Really appreciate the confirmation - would you strip the seat off the tube or just cover it with a damp heavy duty cloth/sack? 14. Hi all, I was cleaning the car tonight and noticed the drivers seat wobbled when i was cleaning it! On closer inspection i was shocked to find the bracked that holds the seat to the rails had cracked.... as in snapped cleanley in two. I never noticed it hapening! See pictures: Rail Part Seat Part So why am i posting on here.. What do people think, can this be repaired without getting new seats? Would it then be sound if it was repaired (welded).... Finally does anyone have a leather drivers seat they fancy parting with? Cheers Edited by - Iestyn on 2 Jun 2013 21:43:01 Edited by - Iestyn on 2 Jun 2013 22:15:03
  15. I've just spoken to Anthony at SFS Hoses. He has advised another group buy could be invoked if 10 or more people wanted them... this would give a 30% discount on list price. I wanted mine sooner than getting a group buy sorted so asked about a standard discount for Lotus 7 club members, he agreed 20% if it was outside the group buy. Well worth giving him a call. Mine is a wet sump 1800 K series and he advised the part numbers needed were: SHL9.5-550 - This is the additional length for the expansion/header tank CHS120/B - This is wet sump, coolant set (5 hoses) HH09 - This is heater set (3 hoses) Hope thats of some use to people looking for Silicone Hoses on the search
