  1. Has anyone used one of these. It looks a cost effective way of setting toe, but I am not clear from the description if you can use it to set toe to a certain number of degrees, or whether it just help to set to zero. Roger Swift was rather disrespectful about my normal method. Attaching two planks of wood to the wheels and measuring the distance between them....
  2. People are normally surprised by the fact that it doesn't come on the cam aggressively. Above 5, and especially 6, it is on full song, but below that it is still giving good power. The only problem is a hole in the torque curve at 3,000-4,000 rpm. Why do you ask?
  3. Actually, come to think of it, it was at 3/4 of max, which is 6500 rpm. Yes it can be done, but it does need both the exhaust and induction to be dealt with. It wasnt that expensive and I certainly rook the view that if I wanted to have such a car, it was as well to future proof it for circuit use. I rarely have to pit the quite silencer on the car, but when I do (EG last time at Oulton) I would have been going home if I hadn't had the quiet system in the truck.

Funny to see I was Keith Jecks when this thread started!

  4. I think the standard gaskets are just fine. You need to ensure the engine has the steel locating dowels for the head (the original heads used nylon and it was these that caused many of the early issues) and that the liner heights are correct.
  5. It is a rear wing, by the way. It is from a 2001 model R500. There is no rush, so if you want it I will happily hold it till you next come to the UK. I am near Caterham
  6. I had a similar problem with the map on my R500. Caterham had a number of goes at it, but I eventually went to Steve Greenald who fixed it for me. It was £400, but well worth it. I think mapping is a specialist function, which needs a specialist to do it well.

I am not sure if it is still the case, but in 2001, the engine builders were responsible for the full throttle/ higher revs mapping and Caterham did the low throttle/ low revs mapping. I guess they want to play safe with the start up maps, leading to them running rich when cold.

  7. Set of Barnby R500 magnesium wheels. Immaculate apart from outside rim on one rear wheel. Very easily changed by any competent DIY mechanic if desired - I ran out of patience waiting for the manufacturer to deliver. £450 the set. Located near Caterham
