  1. Nice bit of trouble-shooting. I had no trouble in this regard on my car and when I get it back I will check my plumbing to see how my lines run relative to each other. I was hoping my theory would prove to be right but oh well, master mechanic I am not.
  2. The ground wire ties in on one of the bellhousing bolts, crimping a new end on solved the problem. This problem happened to me about four times before I figured it out. Always suspect the simple stuff first. Mine is a US spec car also (I'm in Ohio).
  3. I had a similar problem shortly after getting my car(2001 w/Zetec). Turned out to be the ground connection to the engine block from the wire loom, just under the coil pack. I would suspect wiring first given the odd actions of your speedo. Try this to test, turn the ignition on, take off the bonnet, and wiggle the wiring harness. What you will find if you do have a problem there is the fuel pump will start and stop when the ground is disturbed.
  4. Thanks for the offer, however, I will not need to take you up on your offer. Apparently they are british standard whitworth threads which are not available at any supply shops here in the local area(Im in the USA). Solved the problem by paying through the nose for the proper part from Caterham USA.Thanks again.
  5. last night while bleeding my cooling system and buttoning it up the bleed-screw at the top of the radiator broke in two(zetec seven). Spent most of the evening searching part stores for a spare but they do not seem to exist. Does anyone know the what vehicle the heavy duty radiator is sourced from of what the thread size and pitch are for this? Thanks in advance.
  6. Yesterday I road tested the car for the first time since pulling the engine and installing a lightweight flywheel (Fidanza). When it starts up all seems fine but once the engine is put under load it develops what sounds like a missfire. Almost like it is running on three cylinders. I put the car up last fall with 2 gallons of gas with stabilizer and made my first stop at the gas station to fill up with 93 octane. Putting fresh fuel in seemed to make no difference after about 10 miles so I added some injector cleaner. After adding that I drove the car another 25 miles with no improvement. Could the timing be off since adding this new flywheel? If so, how do you go about setting it right. I did pull the plugs to see if something was visible but all looked O.K. to me. I am at a loss here as to what is wrong, any insight or guesses would be greatly appreciated.
  7. My math comes up with 19kg. weight savings. 16" wheels and tires 15kg ea. 8 spoke setup - 12kg ea. _____________________________ 3kg per unit x 5 units ______________________________ 15kg total + 2kg wheel carrier + 2kg ARB ______________________________ 19kg total savings Still not bad at all. Most importantly it is unsprung weight for the most part that you shed.
  8. Note for Anthony B. I did get your message and tried to send it to you twice. For some reason it comes back as not deliverable. Se7en-up! posted the pictures above.
  9. Wingnut, one thing that I would like to have found would be a nylon clamp with a rivnut built in to simplify assembly. I looked at Truechoice and Pegasis but could not find a rivnut small enough for something the size of a #6 or #8 bolt. I agree that it is a better choice than nuts and bolts.
  10. For those who wish, I can e-mail you the pictures. Send me your info at: jennifer851@cs.com. As a draftsman by trade I took the time to make full size drawings of the parts and compiled a material list to take the guesswork out of the job. Instead of tie-wraps I used 3/4" nylon clamps ( 35 total), no welding or brazing needed. If after you see the pictures you want to tackle this project yourself, I can mail you a full set of drawings. To cover the cost of printing and mailing I am requesting you send a check for a whopping $3.00. If I did it for free the costs could potentially make a big dent in my wallet. 11. I have completed the rear belly pan, it looks quite factory. I took photos with a digital camera yesterday. If someone could tell me how to post them I will.
  12. I will gladly supply info on this as the project progresses, pictures too if I can figure out how to post them. I suffer from A.T.S.(anti-technology syndrome), my doctor thinks it is terminal.
