    Windscreen

I cracked my windscreen today tying to re-fit my rear view mirror, its a race car so a plain screen will be ok, or does anyone know were i can get one cheaper than Caterham £95. Cheers Jay
  3. Jez, making a seat aint as hard as you think, i did mine a few weeks ago, and believe me you will do a better job than caterham. i imagined the mix would start foaming as soon as it was mixed but it wont, you have planty of time to mix and pour. Once the mix is in the bag leave it about 1 to 1 1/2 minutes till you start to see it lifting the bag, then gently lower yourself down into your driving position, dont worry if your sat on the ali floor you can sort this out later. You will feel the foam under you and you can massage the foam round your legs and into any position you want, remember left foot on clitch! afetr about 20 minutes get out, if you find your sat on the ali floor, you will find you can peel the bag off the foam upto a point and re-fill the base (where your arse is) and get a thin base and good lumber support, dont worry the two foam mixes will stick together as one. Again sit for a good 20 mins. I would suggest you then leave it for a good hour before you try to take it out. Beware, it took me longer to get the base out in one piece than it did to make the base, you may not think it but it will come out eventually! Then just trim, and tape, easy! The back is done in exactly the same way, remember you can always top the foam up if you aren't getting support in a particular area. I used a paint pot on scales then added 250g of A and 250g of B then mix for the base, and about 300g for the second pour for arse base and lumber support. rinse and repeat for the back. Hope this helps and i will be inspecting your efforts on Wednesdy at Combe! Edit to add i used 1kg for the first pour not 500g Jay Edited by - Jay 28 on 4 Apr 2009 08:15:11

  6. Ok that didn't work how about this? here
  7. It might be a bit late to mention this now but make sure you but the damper in the right way up, Caterham is written on the spring, this should be up right, The Blisten writting will be upside down, i didn't notice this and put both dampers in upside down (with Blisten the right way up), the guys at CC said it didn't really matter though, but just a thought! Good luck with the Diff

    Trailer issues

Thanks for all your replys, i have sorted a friend to drive me down to cc, its just annoying because he has to take a day out his week off to help me ☹️, but im sure an offer to drive the car round a track in payment wont go unappreciated! I will take the test, hopefully i should only have to do the cheapest, shortest, course (but the driving assesment is £32 to find out!), i would like to think im very cappable with a trailer as i have been towing one for years and can get it into just about any position i want. Hey hoe live and learn i guess Jay

    Trailer issues

Ok i've been everywhere on the net to find a deffinate answer to this and 2 things confuse me. 1. The MAM limmit of 3500kg for the vehicle, trailer and load, is this what everything in total weighs, eg. vehicle 1700kgs, trailer 1000kgs, load 500kgs total 3200kgs so this combination is legal. or 2. The MAM limmit of 3500kg is broken because, the MAM limit of the vehicle (in this case 3500kg) plus the MAM of the trailer eg 3500kgs making a total of 7000kgs. So in this case the actualweight of vehicle and load is irrelevant as its the MAM of both Vehicle and Trailer that are taken into account. So what im confused about is weather MAM is the actual weight of the vehicle and load or the theoretcal (spelling?) weight of both vehicle and load? I rang a training instructor to ask about this and he said as the MAM of the LR was 3500kg i was over limmit before i started even though the weight of the LR is 1800kg but he wouldn't explain why which makes me suspicious he was just saying that so i would book training with him . A bit of a essay but any more suggestions? Edited by - Jay 28 on 17 Oct 2008 15:53:34

Thanks for the replys, so ive read the link you posted and now im even more confused The unlaiden weight of the LR is 1700kg so i should be ok towing another 1700kg as long as its a braked trailer? The plate of the LR says i can tow upto a maximum weight of 2500kg, but i dont suppose this matters if i only have a cat B licence?

    Trailer issues

Hi all So the car is booked in for the post build on Monday, i have a ifor trailer i thought would do, but turns out is 1 1/2 inch to small in width and length (i has rigid sides), so i ask a mechanic friend if he knows of anyone i can borrow a trailer off, no dosn't, but then informs me i need a licence to tow a trailer, because i passed my driving test after 1st Jan 1997, and as its a commercial vehical im using i also need a tach if im going over 60 miles. WTF? Ive been on the DVLA web site to to get some info but it's so ambiguous, its hard to tells what legal and whats not. So can someone give me some advise please, the towing vehical is a Defender 90. I have towed 2 ton diggers with my trailer before now and never had any trouble. Stupid laws that no one ever gets to hear about really Me! Edited by - Jay 28 on 16 Oct 2008 21:35:26
